I served in the Navy.

William Sanford McAlister Sr.I am a Veteran.

of Coldwater, MS

June 17, 1935 - January 10, 2023

William Sanford McAlister Sr., 87, was born June 17, 1935 to Luther and Thelma (Christopher) McAlister. He passed peacefully from this life on earth to be with the Lord on January 10, 2023.

He grew up in Smithville, AR with two brothers, Jay and Jerry, now deceased. He is survived by one sister, Clara May Long of Marion, AR.

William was married to Christine Barron McAlister for 64 years and 11 months. They have two sons, William Sanford McAlister Jr. of Ettowah, TN and Keith Barron McAlister (Annette) of Independence, MS and one daughter, Lisa Gail Jeter (Robert) of Collierville, TN. He was a proud grandfather of four granddaughters, Taylor McAlister, Ashley Long (Seth), Mallory Manning (Evan) and Kenzie McAlister; one grandson, Ryan McAlister (Lacey) and one great-grandson, Levi Manning. William was affectionately known to his grandchildren as "PaPa".

William was retired from the U.S. Navy and Kimberly Clark Corporation.

After retirement, Bill and Chris relocated to Mountain View, AR and built a home on the golf course, where he could be found regularly. He joined the Art Guild, where he was accomplished in oil painting. Mountain View is known as the Folk Music Capital of the world so, he was right at home. He loved to play the banjo. He did not accomplish the banjo, but practiced daily.

Bill and Chris were faithful members of Highway 5 North Congregation in Mountain View, where he served as a deacon.

He was at home in Mt. View, but health matters required him to return to Memphis, where he was confined to his home for the remainder of his days. To say the least, he was much happier outdoors among people doing something resourceful in the sunshine.

Both Visitation and Service will take place on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Forrest Hill Church of Christ beginning with Visitation at 10:00 AM followed by the Service at 11:00 AM. Burial will then take place at Memorial Park South Woods.
