Farris Joe Love, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Memphis, Tennessee on Sunday, October 23, 2022.
Joe was born August 27, 1938 to Osbert and Grace Love in Greenbrier, Arkansas. After he graduated from Greenbrier High School, he went on to study Math at Hendrix College. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1960 and started his first teaching job at Jacksonville High School, kickstarting a 45 year career in teaching at high school and college level; these positions included Humes High School, Mitchell High School, State Technical Institute and Southwest Community College. In 1966 he obtained a Master of Science in Education at the Arkansas State Teachers College. Throughout his career he was awarded numerous Exemplary Teacher Awards and was commended by Memphis City Schools for his perfect attendance. Joe also served in the Arkansas Army National Guard for 28 years and retired in 1984.
In early 1969, Joe met his wife, Sylvia, at Memphis State University. Joe and Sylvia were married in June 1969 by Dr. Robert G. Lee at Bellevue Baptist Church and went on to have two children, Lisa and Jolee.
Joe loved gardening and spending time outside with his dog, Brownie by his side. Joe never met a stranger. He knew and loved all of his neighbors and was nicknamed the "Mayor of Whitehaven". He was a dedicated member of his church, he ushered every Sunday and taught Sunday School for 30 plus years.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Osbert and Grace; as well as his brother, Jim. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his daughters, Lisa and Jolee and his sister, Glenna.
Both Visitation and Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home located in West Memphis, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 10AM and Service at 11AM. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee after at 2PM.

I have known Joe over 50 years. He and his dad, Mr. Ob worked for my dad. Dennis Garrison at Horton's Service Station in Conway. Joe was attending Hendrix College at the time. Thaf led to a lifelong friendship between our families. I will miss your phone calls checking in to see how we are doing.
Mr. Joe and Mrs. Sylvia was not only neighbors they were family. Mr. Joe was my brother and helped me spiritually. He was a great man and he looked out for everyone in the neighborhood. I will truly miss him calling and checking on me just about every day. Rest In Peace my brother â¤ï¸ðŸ™ðŸ¾
Mr. Love was a very caring and nice teacher.
He was one of the best Math teachers and teachers at Mitchell High.

Uncle Joe- what a name. I was named after you and your legacy will always stay true. From forcing me into algebra camp before I was even taking algebra to the countless life lessons- I’ll forever be grateful. You inspired, taught and mentored me throughout my “growing up†and lived by example to so many you had the pleasure of encountering. I know you’ll continue to teach and coach me through life with the knowledge you instilled in me. You were truly a light and inspiration to so many. Thank you for everything.

I never had Mr. Love as a teacher,but I could tell by all the friends and other students that he did teach that he was a GREAT TEACHER. Though I didn't have him as a teacher,he STILL knew my name and always spoke to me whenever we met. I will miss him for his kindness and presence of being. May he Rest in Heavenly and Eternal peace.

Mr Love I don't know why I thought you would live forever but I did. Man you will be missed. One of my favorite teachers at Mitchell. I knew from my first day at Mitchell that you cared about your students.
