My condolences on your loss. I am 100% confident that I was penpals with Russ during the Gulf War 90-91. Throughout the years I’ve remembered that we were penpals and thought that I should try and look him up, since I myself went into the service and am a 20 year veteran of the Navy Seabees. I was looking through Momento box that has been in my storage and found the old letters from Russ. And was disappointed when I again searched for him to discover that just a month ago he had passed. The names and the ages and the Hometown all match up so it must be him. His girls were five and seven at the time and he loved them and thought they were the most beautiful young ladies ever. Well I’m disappointed that I never reconnected with him later in life, I’m happy that I was able to distract him even briefly during the time of war that he was in. And although we didn’t serve together in the same unit, we were in the service at the same time so I say rest easy brother we have the watch.

Sad to see this. My condolences to the family. When he worked at Hendrix, Russ walked me to my car on some particularly late night work days for me in the Sleep Lab. He always seemed happy to do this for me, though I know that it actually added work to his night. His kindness and happy spirit will be missed.

I served with Russ at Little Rock Air Force Base 90-92. Russ was an outstanding Security Police Desk Sergeant, dependable friend and coworker to many. He enjoyed fishing, family and hunting and had many, many stories for those fortunate enough to bring the subject up. You will be missed and may God bless you, your family and friends. RIP my brother in arms.

So deeply sorry your family had to go through this: but sharing your sorrow and keeping memories of Russ in your heart is the best way to celebrate his life. What he meant to you as a son, husband, father or brother will be yours to share the rest of your life. The Family has my deepest sympathy.
