Valerie J. Hernandez

of Little Rock, AR

September 13, 1952 - September 2, 2022

On September 2, 2022, Valerie J. Hernandez, a beloved mother, went to be with the Lord. A native of Arkansas, she was born in Osceola, on September 13, 1952, to Ira Blackwell and Louise Mott Blackwell. Valerie attended Portland State University, Oregon and Le-Moyne-Owen College, Tennessee in the early 70s. And eventually moved on and settled in Little Rock, Arkansas, pursuing a career in the Healthcare Industry. As a determined professional, Valerie worked in various Hospitals around central Arkansas, retiring from Baptist Medical Center and recently employed at VA Central Arkansas Health Care | Veterans Affairs. She took pride in her career and worked as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist, while holding a Clinical Sleep Educator certification. As a Christian, she was always seeking God's direction in her life. Friends and family best remember her as having a gentle approach yet steadfast will and a beautifully heartfelt laugh. And as a beloved mother and grandmother, her love, wisdom, attention, advice and strong support were unwavering and will be forever cherished.

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Louise Mott Blackwell and Ira Blackwell. She is survived by her two sons, Melvin Mott Wilson and Raymond D Davis; sister, Irah Blackwell-Stokes; nephews, Kylcee Rainey and Christopher Stokes; daughters-in-law, Katrina Wilson and Vivian Davis; grandchildren, Maia Wilson, Mariah Wilson, Constance Wilson, Rayvian-Mott Davis, Valerie Louise Davis and Aamara Davis.

Memorials may be sent to any Cancer research or awareness charity in Valerie's name.

Visitation will be held at 1300hrs on September 13, 2022 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home with funeral services following at 1400hrs.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Val's family and friends during this difficult time. I worked alongside Val for many years and would like to think that our relationship went beyond coworker. I will miss her greatly. Unfortunately, I have an appointment that will prevent me from attending services. I wish I could be there in person, but that is not possible. Val will be missed by everyone who ever had the pleasure of getting to know her.

Sending my thoughts and prayers to the family that she talked about so many times that I feel that I know you all. I had the pleasure of working with Ms Val for 7 years at the VA. Those times were always filled with stories and smiles. We had Memphis in common and it was sometimes the start of our conversations. I enjoyed and will miss those conversations. I find peace knowing that she is at rest. God bless.

Although my time with Ms. Val was short, it was enough to leave me feeling inspired. Her strength and her laughter will be what I remember most about her. My heart goes out to her family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. May you find encouragement from God's promises--2 Cor.1:3,4.

God looked around his garden and he found an empty place. He then looked down upon this Earth, and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough, and the hills were hard to climb, so he closed your weary eyelids and whispered " peace be thine."

It broke our hearts 💔 to lose you but you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you. The Day God called you home.

Rest in peace Momma. We know your in a better place you are always loved and never forgotten.
