Paul Ernest Magness, Jr., age 78, formerly of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2022. Paul was born September 8, 1943 in Gassville, Arkansas to the late Paul and Willie Mae Magness, Sr. He was married for 56 years to his college sweetheart, Dawn Marie Magness. He graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1961, and received a B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1967. Following graduation from college, he worked for Jewel Cooper at Cooper Drug Store in Mountain Home, on the square. After a few years of becoming an experienced Pharmacist, he and his partner Neil Vick, opened one of the first-ever Walmart Retail Pharmacies at the Walmart store in Mountain Home. After one year of business, he received a much-deserved letter of congratulations personally from Sam Walton for the success of the Pharmacy.
Paul's favorite hobby during his retirement years was spending quality time with Dawn. They both enjoyed their daily adventures together in town, shopping and enjoying meals together at their favorite restaurants. Paul and Dawn also enjoyed spending quality time with their immediate Family, and extended family at their cabin on the Cache Bayou, in Gregory, Arkansas. His favorite daily activity at his cabin was to ride around in his Polaris Ranger side by side, enjoying the beautiful Woodruff County farmland, while spotting all of the interesting critters who knew him well.

To the Magness family we are very sorry to hear that you have lost Paul. I met Paul back when I was building. I remodeled his pharmacy so that he he make use of a sterile field table. I think he was the first pharmacy to enable himself to make sterile meds and package them for his customers. Also was privileged to remodel his house after the fire. He loved his curved handrails on his stairs that I made,he would bring it up any time we saw one another. I enjoyed havin conversation with Paul anytime he loved to talk about his guns and shooting. Once again Beth and I are very sorry for your loss.May GOD be with you.Randy

My sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Paul was one of the most genuine and honest people I’ve known. Didn’t see him too often, just a couple times a year at most, but that was enough for me to know that those who could call him their friend or family were fortunate. I’ll miss him and I’ll never forget him.
My deepest sympathy to Dawn, Darren and the Magness family for the loss of Paul. You could always trust Paul to be very knowledgeable about everything from medicine, business, shooting sports to how to organize things with the utmost efficiency. I respected him for his intellect, his focus on success and am so very appreciative of how he has supported and cared for Dawn over the many years.
Many prayers for the Magness family and friends during this difficult time.

Mr. Paul was a kind soul, he was generous and good to those who are between a rock and a hard place. When we were pretty young raising our kids, our daughter had pretty bad asthma and we visited him on a regular basis over the years. He was the type of person that "small town life" exemplifies!! I'm proud to say that I knew him...praying for all his family during the days, weeks and months ahead. Faith
