Sandra Marlene Stanley

of Benton, AR

February 13, 1958 - May 29, 2022

Sandra Stanley, age 64, went to be with the Lord on May 29, 2022 in Benton, Arkansas.
Visitation to be held, Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 6:00-8:00PM at Roller Alcoa Funeral Home.
Funeral Services to be held Friday, June 3, 2022 at 10:00AM at Roller Alcoa Funeral Home with Burial to follow at Kensett Cemetery in Searcy Arkansas.
Sandra was born to Jim and Dorothy Walmsley in Searcy, AR on February 13,1958.
From a young age Sandra was a natural athlete with a love of competition. This, combined with her hard work, would earn her a scholarship on the inaugural woman's basketball team at Williams Baptist College. After two years, she was recruited to play at Arkansas State University where she would be a top scorer, and earned a bachelors degree in education.
Sandra taught 8th grade science for 34 years around the state of Arkansas, impacting thousands of young people. While teaching at Gosnell Junior High School, she met the love of her life and was married to Jim Stanley on October 20, 1990. In the following years, they would have three beautiful children, Julie, Jessica and Matthew.
Sandra was always a woman of strong Christian faith, sharing her love of Jesus with friends, colleagues and pupils anytime she could. She loved being outdoors and always had the most impressive garden. Sandra loved the fall season and holidays, never letting one pass without celebration. Her greatest worldly love was her family, especially her children. She would always say, ''My greatest accomplishment on this earth is these three kids''.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Dorothy Walmsley and her brother, Steve Walmsley.
She is survived by her faithful husband, Jim; her children, Julie (husband Cawley), Jessica and Matt; and her siblings, Arthur, Daniel and Winnie Walmsley.
We know many will say ''in lieu of flowers/plants'' but Sandra loved flowers. If you feel so led, flowers will be cherished. But better yet, honor her by planting a seed, flower, bush or tree. Celebrate her beautiful life by cultivating anew.
We would like to thank her team at CARTI and Baptist Hospice Care for taking such wonderful care of her during these difficult times. We are forever grateful.

Sandra was filled with love, joy, peace, and charisma. She just drew people to her. Of course, she was a fantastic teacher. I loved her as a friend and colleague at GJHS. She also coached our teacher’s children in T-ball. She coached them so she knew her own children as well as our children would be coached with love and lessons. Coach, Julie, Jessica, and Matt please know we love you and are holding up in prayer. Hold steadfast to knowing she loved you more than anything else on this earth. Love to you all. 💙💙💙💙💗

Coach Stanley, Julie, Jessica and Matthew -

We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Mrs. Stanley was a precious lady. We shared a love of snowmen together. I enjoyed driving by your house at Christmas time admiring the festive decorations. You could always find her working in her beautiful flowers during the spring time too. You have all been missed since moving from the hill. Your family will all be in our prayers during this most difficult time.

As many of the other teachers with whom Sandra worked, I am saddened to hear the news of her passing and share many memories of her. When she and Jimmy married, so many of us pitched in to give them the wedding of her dreams. I took their wedding pictures using a camera that belonged to the GHS Annual Staff. The church was filled with friends, family, and so many of their junior high students, who giggled when it came time for Jimmy to kiss his bride.
Jim, God bless you and your family and be with you through these trying times.

This just makes me feel my own mortality. Coach, I'll always remember coming back to Gosnell after my grandma died. I just showed up at football practice one day and Sandra insisted I come to the house and eat steaks with you guys. I was one of the many lives you guys touched. When I graduated from Gosnell I left and never looked back, but I never had anything but love and admiration for both of you. I remember acting a fool in 8th grade science class and somehow she always had patience with me and she was always a cool teacher. As a former student, saying she was a cool teacher is probably the best compliment I can give. Coach, you and your family will be in my thoughts. I can't imagine what you're going through.
