Mitchell Delayne King

of Conway, AR

July 4, 1971 - May 21, 2022

Dr. Mitchell Delayne King was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Dr. King was born on July 4, 1971 in Athens, Tennessee to the late Carrie Alma Hicks King and Earl King. He is survived by his wife, Mary Christina King of Conway, Arkansas; children, Haydon Mitchell King, Katie Grace Rebecca King, William Anderson King and Anderson Raney King; and older siblings, Annette King Powers Deakins (Michael) and Kris King (Greta), all of Athens, Tennessee. He also leaves a host of extended family and adoring friends, including his father and mother-in-law, Ed and Becky Ellis of Conway; brother-in-law, Dr. Ladd Ellis (Ashley) of Conway; sister-in-law, Katie Scott (Trey) of Conway and numerous nephews and nieces. While Dr. King's loved ones cherish his memory and grieve his passing, by the grace of his Savior they do so with hope. Dr. King accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was thirteen years old and was baptized at Pope Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, Tennessee.

Dr. King graduated from McMinn County High School in Athens, Tennessee and subsequently received an undergraduate degree in Biology from Tennessee Wesleyan University, graduating Cum Laude. After college, Dr. King attended the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in Memphis, Tennessee. It was during his time at dental school, that Dr. King was introduced to the love of his life, Christy, by his friend, classmate and soon-to-be brother-in-law, Dr. Ladd Ellis. The two wed on May 24, 1997 and would have celebrated 25 years of marriage this month. Dr. King also graduated Cum Laude from dental school in 1997 and moved to Arkansas to begin his dental career. He established King Family Dental Care, where he practiced for the last 24 years. Through King Family Dental Care, Dr. King practiced general dentistry while always striving to improve and stay on the cutting edge of dental techniques and procedures. Dr. King had a passion for lifelong learning and improving his craft to benefit the smiles of thousands of patients. One of the highlights of his career was serving on a dental mission trip in Honduras with Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International (BMDMI) in 2019 where he and his team extracted 342 teeth.

Dr. King was an active member and deacon of Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway, where he and Christy taught Sunday school for 16 years. For many years, Dr. King was also an active AWANA leader at Woodland Heights and a leader at Bible Study Fellowship. He loved baseball, fireworks (having been born on the Fourth of July), roller coasters, Mayfield's ice cream, church softball leagues, Gondolier pizza, Dairy Barn walnut shakes, Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park, snow cones, the New York Yankees and Star Wars. Dr. King poured his love of life and baseball into numerous young people through coaching little league teams for more than 20 years. He also coached basketball, soccer and softball. However, his greatest legacy and deepest riches are left in his children, whom he loved immeasurably.

A service of remembrance will be held at Woodland Heights Baptist Church on Friday, May 27, at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dr. Mitchell D. King Memorial Fund, which has been established at First Security Bank. Contributions to the Memorial Fund will be used to provide financial assistance to sponsor local little league baseball teams and to assist in funding scholarships for individuals going overseas on dental mission trips with BMDMI. It is our hope that through the Memorial Fund, others will have opportunities to experience the rewarding outreach activities which played such a large role in shaping Dr. King's life and legacy.

The family would like to thank the following for their friendship, care and support of Dr. King; Dr. Lander Smith of Conway, Dr. Brad Baltz and staff of Little Rock, Arkansas, Dr. Daniel Thomas of Mount Dora, Florida, Dr. Diana Wright of Siloam Springs, Arkansas and the late Dr. Ralf Kleef of Vienna, Austria. Special thanks are also in order to his faithful friends, Wayne Landers, Dr. Ben Dodge, Steve Lasiter and father-in law Ed Ellis, who traveled the world and prayed with him throughout his treatment journey. The family is also grateful for the King Family Dental Care staff, Dr. Ladd Ellis and Dr. Luke Sanders for their commitment to continue the care for Dr. King's dental patients that he loved so much.

I just found out today of the passing of Dr. King. He was my dentist for years, his office is now back in my network for my insurance. I was patiently waiting to come back. I was glad to come back today, but when I found out the news at the office I was saddened. He was a great doctor. My prayers are with his family and friends.

I just learned of Mitchell Kings passing today and am so sorry to hear it. I met Dr. Mitchell King in 2016 and decided I wanted him to be my dentist after mine had retired. Dr. King did my dental work necessary for a hip surgery and played a role in helping me get my mobility back and later, Dr. King helped me get my smile back. He loved my convertible and I just loved both Dr. King and his wonderful staff at King Family Dental. He will be missed.

Today, June 15th is the day that I received the news of Dr. King’s passing. I became speechless what seemed like minutes—I had no idea that he was dealing with health issues because he exemplified a positive presence. This speaks volumes of what a true, God fearing Christian is. He consistently maintained intentional and genuine pleasantness as he asked about my job as a teacher, and my family, especially my husband, Jo. Dr. King had a personal yet professional presence. I’ve been praying for his entire family ( home/ office) since I was was made aware of his passing.

My deepest sympathies to the family. Dr. King has been our family dentist for several years and I thought a lot of him. He had a kind and gentle spirit and when we had to move to another dentist due to insurance, we were glad to get to go back to Dr. King when are insurance changed. I remember pictures of his family on the counter and window sill and he loved you all and talked about you. He was a great man who will be missed by all who knew him.

I was one of Mitch's teachers at Riceville Elementary School. When I saw his picture in the obituaries, with that infectious smile, I was so saddened. He was such a pleasure to teach!
I am not at all surprised at this success as a dentist, husband, father, friend, and
witnessing Christian. I will keep your family near to my heart.

To Dr. King’s family and work family,
John and I are tremendously saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. King. Sitting in his dental chair you experienced his gentleness, kindness and compassion. You knew he was a dedicated Christian without a word passing about it. He has been our standard in our search for a new dentist in our new hometown. Our hearts ache for you at your loss. May God keep you in his loving arms and give you strength for each new day.

Christy, Katie Grace, Ed & Becky, I’m still in shock over Dr. King’s passing. He was always so happy, thoughtful, caring, and never ashamed to share his love for Christ while sitting in his dental chair. He was so proud of his kids and we enjoyed sharing many conversations about their different personalities that make each one special. He was my dentist for years and always willing to come to our school to share dental health with my students. My prayers are with the family at this time during your loss. One day we will see him again in Heaven and be greeted with his big smile to welcome us home!
