Lorri Elizabeth Petty

of Searcy, AR

April 17, 1963 - May 12, 2022

Lorri Elizabeth Petty, 59, of Searcy passed away at her home on May 12, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on April 17, 1963 in Santa Ana, California to Billy Carroll and Lillian Carolyn Webb Wheeler.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Mark Petty of Searcy; her daughter, Alexandra Petty of Brooklyn, NY; her son, Brooks Petty of Searcy, AR; her parents, Bill & Carolyn Wheeler of Wynne; her sisters, Leigh Anne Wheeler and Leslie (Bert) Mosley of Wynne; niece and nephew, Carlee Smith and Wheeler (Megan) Mosley; Mark's parents, Gordon and Rachel Petty of Searcy along with other extended family members and a host of friends.

Lorri worked for Roller-Citizen Funeral Home in West Memphis for five years in their office and later attended Harding University where she received an Associates Degree in Business. She worked in the insurance industry as an agent for some time and Lorri and Mark owned and operated their restaurant Whistle Stop for thirteen years. But the most important thing in her life was her family and her church. She loved each one of them and was involved in every aspect of their lives. Lorri was an active member of the College Church of Christ in Searcy.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the College Church of Christ with Visitation being at 1:00 PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Arnold Cemetery in Swifton, Arkansas.

Words fall short to express our sadness of Lorri's end to her long courageous battle. Lorri and I have so many wonderful memories from church bus rides to missionary trips to Duluth Minn to school football games, cheerleading, choir and getting into a little mischief now and then ( most likely my influence). Although we always kept in touch over the years, after I moved to California when I got married, we reunited with 6 of us girls from highschool and spent a wonderful weekend at Mark and Lorri's reminiscing about the good ol' days... we laughed and cried. Lorri was such an inspiration to me and many others over the years, witnessing how she handled her long battle with such bravery, peace, faithfulness and courage will for ever be ingrained in my memory of her. While i'm so heartbroken to know I won't see her here on Earth any longer, I rejoice for her in her eternal reward for all her faithfulness. I know I will be reunited with her again one day and we will share many hugs, laughs and memories again.... until that day, you will be in my heart, my mind and prayers. I now pray for Mark, Alex, Brook, Mr & Mrs Wheeler and the rest of her family for strength and peace in the most difficult days ahead. Mr Wheeler had a huge impact during my life, I've always thought of him as a father figure with his big statue, deep voice and warm hugs which made me feel safe. He married my husband and I, baptized my husband and mentored us over the years during hard times.
I sure wish I could be at Lorri's memorial to celebrate her brave life and get another warm, reassuring hug from Mr Wheeler.
Lorri...Until we meet again my lifelong friend... forever friends~

Lorri was a person who loved. She loved others, life, Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit. She was not afraid to share her personal battle with cancer to others. She gave us inspiration and hope in the midst of her physical battle. Lorri has been brave and faithful. She has been an ambassador for others who have fought and are still fighting cancer today. Thank you Lorri for your faith and love for Jesus, and the love you have shown to your family and friends.
You have now received your crown of righteousness. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

We just saw Lorri at Walmart... She was full of life. We talked for about 15 minutes about Brooks, living at Harding, and how she was looking forward to Mother's Day. She had a way of making your day better. We grieve with Mark, Brooks, and the family.

We shall miss our sweet neighbor and friend, Lorri! To us Lori was a model of courage and sweetness. She taught us much about facing extreme difficulties in life with a smile and a sweet spirit. Our love and prayers go with you Mark, Alexa, Brooks, Wheeler family, Petty family, and Lorri's host of special friends. Because of Christ, Lorri lives on--not only in our memories. Jesus told a believer who died with Him, "Today, you shall be with me in paradise." Thank God for our hope in Christ.

John and I are saddened to hear the news of Lorrie’s passing. She fought a long and valiant battle and was a great encouragement to all of us who knew and loved her. Her positive attitude and deep devotion to her faith in her Heavenly Father was evident to all who came in contact with her. She fought the good fight and kept the faith. Now she is pain free and experiencing the joy of heaven!
Love and Blessings to the entire Wheeler and Petty families!

My thoughts and prayers go out to each of you who loved Lorri. We would sit and visit longer than it would take me to eat my food at the Whistle Stop. We would catch up on all the Marion news we each knew about. I know she suffered for a very long time and even though we know she is no longer in pain, it’s still so difficult for family and friends to say goodbye. Alex, Brooks, Mark, The Wheeler family I pray God blesses you with little signs that she is finally free of hurt.
