Richard "Dick" Allen Price

of Little Rock, AR

April 8, 1938 - May 2, 2022

Little Rock's own, international radio personality, KAAY's long reining night-time on-air talk-show host. "Dick" Price, born April 8, 1938, in Little Rock, died peacefully in the early morning hours on May 2, 2022. It is only the calendar that reads the man was 84 years old, we know he never seemed anything like a fella who was eighty-four.

Born to Ruth Ernestine "Pris" Price, whom he endearingly introduced to everyone as his; 'Silver-haired-mom-honey,' Dick lived in Little Rock and Eudora AR., Toledo OH., Huntsville and Mobile AL., Key West and Cocoa Beach FL., US Territory of Guam, Colorado Springs CO., and Juneau Alaska.

Dick married the love of his life, Pat Dowling, in St Louis, Missouri, July 5, 1980. They were privileged to spend 41 years together as spouses and best friends. Dick and Pat have one son Nicholas Price. Nick meant the world to Dick he was proud of him and the man he became.

Dick also had two sons from an early marriage, Rick, and Scott, whom he and Pat love dearly. Dick Price dearly enjoyed all his children and shared stories of each one's adventures or achievements. The Price household also served as 'Foster Parents' to a half dozen youngsters, opening their hearts along with their home to include three foreign exchange students. He was a devoted and caring husband; and was immensely proud of the life he shared with Pat.

Dick knew he was a blessed man to have such a marvelous group to call: 'My Family.' He also learned the gold n magic of being a grandfather to five grandchildren. Sara, Rick, Victoria and a pair of little girls, Isabella, and Emma, who intensely won his heart and continuously put a smile on his face and pride in his heart. Dick was a loving and caring Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother-in-law, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend to all.

Dick's life-long calling was in broadcasting. He started in AM Broadcast radio from an early age and worked in radio and television in Little Rock, Mobile, and Huntsville, AL., Key West, and Cocoa Beach FL., with a detour to Colorado Springs, Co.

In 1979 Dick Price gained his greatest notoriety, with his broadcasting talents at KAAY, a powerful 50-thousand-Watt station, heard in dozens of nations across the globe. He received calls from various states and developed a devoted following of listeners and gatherings of fans. Later, he would work for KARN 920 and KHLT1010AM. He stårted a talk show on KAAY in Little Rock on weekday evenings, just in time for the Iranian Hostage crisis. He eventually adopted the name for the show "Singing Pig Talk Show.

'Spontaneity, Adventuresome and his passion and love for life' cloaked with laughter, could best describe Dick. He was a licensed private pilot and flew the family on various vacation trips. He also had a great love for automobiles and boats. Sitting for any length of time with Dick was to hear endless stories about radio, his mother's trips around the world, the love of his life Pat, their children, and his precious grandchildren, and of course all Dick's stories had that magical touch of his very own wit and humor. Wherever he went Dick Price littered the world with a trail of echoing laughter.

In lieu of flowers, please perform an act of kindness and put a smile on someone's face.

A visitation/celebration of life will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

I echo what Marjorie Armstrong posted . I was one of that same group of men and women and am just now learning of his passing. He was larger than life and had such a gift of story telling. His love for his silver-haired - mother-honey and his entire family was something he loved to share with those of us. He definitely kept things lively. I feel so honored to have known him and called him a friend.

I just learned of Dick's passing. I "met" him when I dropped into a private internet forum some 30 years ago. They had named it "wHimsey." It was Dick who quickly welcomed me and engaged me in conversation with about 20 men and women from across the state of Arkansas. Dick sure could spin a yarn. He posted about the places he had gone and people he had met ... good, bad or ugly.

He was taken with Hillary Clinton when he interviewed the then-Arkansas First Lady, exulting in what he called her "bawdy" sense of humor. Speaking of bawdy, his stories about his much-loved mother Pris were always hilarious and sometimes outrageous.

Dick and many of the wHimsey group became like family, and Dick was part of the glue that kept us together. He was a remarkable human being.

I just learned of the passing of Dick Price. Though we never met in person, in 1979 Dick had an on air Radio Dating game for a period of time on KAAY. I called in one night on a whim then a young lady called in about me. Dick introduced us on air then allowed us to talk off air. We set up a date as a result. We will be married 43 years this spring. I was 6’3” tall and a forester so he nicknamed me on air Tall Paul the forester. Without Dick and his show we would have never met. Thought the family would enjoy hearing this story about Dick Price. My condolences to the family.

Prayers go out to Dick Price's family. His wife, Pat Price talked about him and the precious times they shared together with family and friends. The two of them were always helping others and he will be remembered. He was a good man and will be missed. God bless his family.

DICK WAS MY FIRST ARKANSAS FRIEND WHEN I MOVED HER 41 YRS AGO. HE WAS PURE JOY TO BE AROUND.

ONE OF MY FAVORITE MEMORIES WAS WHEN MY HUBBY & SON JOINED ME FOR A SPAGHETTI LUNCH PREPARED BY MY FAV. CHEF-RADIO-PERSONALITY / DICK HIMSELF ALONG WITH A GAGGLE OF HIS OTHER BUDDIES. WE ALL BOARDED HIS OCEAN-GOING TRAWLER AND MOTORED UP AND DOWN THE ARKANSAS RIVER TILL THE FOOD WAS INHALED AND WE WERE WEARY OF LAUGHTER. (LAUGHED SO MUCH I WAS EXHAUSTED - REALLY.)

ALL WHO KNEW DICK LOVED HIM. HE WAS LOYAL AND PATIENT -ALWAYS HELPFUL - UP FOR A GOOD TIME - AND I DISCOVERED HE WAS THE BEST PERSON TO HAVE MET ON DAY ONE, HERE IN ARKIELAND.

ALL MY FAMILY ADORED DICK . MY HUSBAND AND DICK BECAME VERY GOOD FRIENDS. OUR SON THOUGHT DICK WAS (QUOTE) AMAZING AND VERY DARING FOR A 'PARENT.' (WHICH MAKES ME WONDER WHAT THE TWO OF THEM WERE UP TO...) HA!
