Joann Stephenson Smith

of Marshall, AR

April 26, 1938 - May 5, 2022

Joann Stephenson Smith, age 84 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Thursday, May 5th, 2022 at Ozark Health in Clinton, Arkansas. She was born on April 26th, 1938 to Hubert Leon Stephenson and Birthell Pemberton Stephenson.

Joann graduated from Leslie High School and married Ardith Hobert Smith on March 24th, 1956. She worked at the Capital Mercury Shirt Factory until it shut down and spent her retirement working at Friendship Community Care as a Granny in the nursery. Afterwards, she cared for her own grandchildren and spent her time gardening and cooking meals. It is impossible to capture a lifetime of memories and love in a few short paragraphs. Joann was a devoted mother, deeply loved by her sons, grandchildren, and husband. Her strong personality was matched only by her strong faith in the Lord God Almighty. Joann was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and a member of the Searcy County Cattleman's Association.

Survivors include her four sons, Phillip Smith and wife Terry of Fayetteville, Jeff Smith and wife Laura of Cecil, Steve Smith and wife Paula of Marshall and Brock Smith and wife Morgan also of Marshall; eight grandchildren, Nathaniel Smith, Joshua Smith, Colby Smith, Dakota Smith, Casey Whittaker, Ally Smith, Ashlynn Smith and Warren Smith; six great-grandchildren, Presley, Grace, Graham, Griffin, Gray and Arielle; brother, Billy Charles Stephenson and wife Rose of Conway; sister, Janice Massey and husband Marcus of Conway; brother-in-law, Elton Smith of Marshall and a host of other relatives and friends who will also mourn her passing.

Joann is preceded in death by her parents, Hubert and Birthell Stephenson; and her husband of 62 years, Ardith Hobert Smith who passed away in 2018.

Funeral services for Joann will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 10th, 2022 at Roller-Coffman Chapel in Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. John Myatt officiating. Visitation will be 6:00 till 8:00 PM Monday, May 9th, 2022 in the Chapel. Burial will be in Dongola Cemetery where Joann will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ardith. Bearers will be Joshua Smith, Nathaniel Smith, Colby Smith, David Massey, Greg Stephenson and Erik Whittaker.
