Jimmie Joe Layton, 85, of West Memphis, Arkansas, passed away May 5, 2022, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born to Willard and Nora Mae Fears Layton on August 27, 1936, in Earle, AR. He worked for General Motors in Memphis and was a retired farmer in Togo, AR. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN where he enjoyed serving as an usher in the balcony. Jimmie Joe was very outgoing, loved telling funny stories. He loved talking to both friends and strangers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws Willard and Wilma Wood.

Mr. Layton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edna Lew Layton; sons, Bruce (Becky) Layton of Gulfport, MS and Joe Layton of West Memphis; grandsons, Joseph Layton of Tuscaloosa and Daniel Layton of Gulfport; and many friends and family.

Graveside services will be 11:30 am, Monday, May 9, 2022, at Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, AR with Jared Bassham officiating. Visitation will precede the service from 10-11am at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, 201 N. Pine, West Memphis, AR.

Oh Edna, We're so sorry to hear that Jimmy has passed away. We were just talking about ya'll this weekend. They gave Thomas a 80th birthady party and invited us. I meant to ask Thomas if he ever heard from ya'll. As onry as Jimmy was we do know that he's in a better place. Your family has always been special to us. Love ya'll. may God give you peace and comfort through days and weeks ahead. God bless.

So very sorry to learn of Jimmy Joes death. Still remembering all the fun Sunday nights we had after church so many years ago. I can still hear Bill and Jimmy Joe trying to out do each other. I am so very sorry to hear about Jimmy Jo. He was always a dear friend to us and anytime I would run into him at the store we would talk forever. He always made me laugh and always had a story to tell me. I have such fond memories of our friendship of many many years.
