of Proctor, AR
October 22, 1941 - February 23, 2022
Larry Thomas, 80, of Proctor, Arkansas died Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at his home in Proctor, Arkansas. Larry was born in Blytheville, Arkansas to parents, Roy and Clara Sanford Thomas on October 22, 1941.
Larry married Peggy Whitney, the love of his life, on June 16, 1961 and they were married until her death on January 29, 2010. They moved to West Memphis in 1967, where he began his career as an auto body repairman. Larry had a great reputation for his work ethic and quality and for being a do-it-yourselfer. Through the years, Larry enjoyed stock car drag racing, hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, and riding horses. He was a devoted family man who loved time with his wife, children, grand-children, and great grand-children. He valued his close friends and extended family members and enjoyed helping others. He had a love for animals and had many dogs and horses through the years. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and Western movies. His favorite music was old country and his favorite singers included Marty Robbins, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Charlie Pride, and Elvis Presley. Late in life, Larry accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Three Trees Cowboy Church in Wynne where he loved to hear Pastor Tracy Wilson deliver God's message and Brother Chris Stover lead the music worship. One of his last wishes was to go to church one more time, and he was blessed with attending for the last time on February 13, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Peggy Whitney Thomas, his parents; and one brother, William "Moon" Thomas.
He is survived by three children: a daughter, Debra Brasfield and two sons, Gary Thomas (Donna) and Kevin Thomas (Jennifer); six grand-children: Jennifer Carter, Cory Brasfield (Logan), Barry Thomas, Josh Thomas (Kennedi), Shawn Thomas, and Cameron Thomas; two step grand-children: Abby and Anna Nichols; and three great grand-children: Cooper Carter, Camden Brasfield, and Clarke Brasfield.
I met Larry at John Ellis Chevrolet in 1975. He was repairing my Camaro. Tall skinny and black headed. He was the best body man I've ever known. He worked on all my wrecked cars. I had a new 88 Supra with a golf ball dent in the right headlight cover. It was deep. He laid that cover on his knee and hammered that dent completely out without breaking the paint. I was trying to talk to him about some door locks sticking on my Cadillac when I found about his passing. I was crushed. I want his family and friends to know he was one of the finest men I've ever known. I'm so sorry for your loss.
