Selma (McCombs) Spicer

of Paris, AR

August 17, 1931 - January 26, 2022

Selma McCombs Spicer joined this world on August 17, 1931 to Ace Clyde McCombs and Martha Ellen Luman McCombs. As one of eleven children, she grew up in Logan County and remained close with all her family.

After completing the 7th grade, she began working. Selma met Darrell Spicer and the two were married in August of 1947. Later living on Spicer's Corner between Subiaco and Scranton, they were poultry and dairy farmers for many years. She loved being a mother to David and Darla. After Darrell passed she spent many years working in manufacturing and later caring for others.

Selma, affectionately known as Granny, had several interests and hobbies including crocheting, sewing, puzzles, watching Bob Ross, visiting with friends, rocking babies, and sitting in the sunshine. She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters deeply, always looking forward to family reunions. She was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, a lifelong Christian and loved Jesus whole-heartedly. Selma was quick to say, ''I love you'' and slow to give in. She was witty, kind, and gave the best hugs you've ever had.

On January 26, 2022 at 90 years old, Selma received the opportunity to attend a reunion in Heaven with family, friends, and loved ones who waited a long time to see her. The years she spent here with us are precious. If you knew her, you loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents AC and Martha; husband Darrell Spicer; daughter Darla Christine Spicer Bowen, and nine siblings, Harold McCombs, Elewese Nixon, Anna Mae Askins, Burl McCombs, Edna Faye Leatherwood, Jearl Dean McCombs, Kenneth, Bruce, and Jerry Lindle.

She is survived by her son David, wife Jessica and grandson Blake of Ozark; David's children with Denise Kemers, Kaylyn Dyer and DJ Spicer and great granddaughter Amaryllis Dyer all of Paris; Grandson Mike Bowen, wife Ashley and great grandchildren Rylee and Austin of Greenbrier; Granddaughter Rebecca Bowen, partner Dustin Contreras and great grandchildren Jace, Harper and Emily of Paris; Sister Brenda Hertlein of Subiaco and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Monday January 31, 2022 from 1-2 p.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Paris. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. officiated by Bro. Jeremy Jones with burial to follow at McKendree Cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Homes in Paris.

Pallbearers will be Bud Inman, Paul Wefer, Randy Hertlein, Mike Bowen, Dustin Contreras and Dalton Bowen.

Granny was the most beautiful woman inside and out. Granny was kind to everyone she met.

Granny was literally the best cook in the entire world. Granny made the best meals and showed her love to others through her cooking. Granny could make anything out of scratch. Granny taught me a lot of things about cooking and how to stretch meals.

Granny was a wonderful mother to her kids. She always stood up for her family and believed in them. Granny loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren so much. Holding, rocking, and loving on babies was one of Granny's true gifts.

Granny believed in hard work and she was always taking care of people and getting things done. Granny was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and was faithful to her church for many years.

You could not be around Granny without feeling how much she loved you. Granny's house always felt like home.

I will miss Granny for the rest of my life. I will cherish all of my memories with her.

I will continue to thank God for allowing me to be her granddaughter in law. I will continue to thank God for allowing her to be our children's Granny. I will thank God for every minute we were able to spend with her.

I love you with all of my heart Granny ❤
