Jane Carol Longing

of Conway, AR

February 7, 1936 - January 6, 2022

Jane Carol (Janie) Mixon Longing

You couldn't miss Janie Longing. Her radiant smile and glowing white hair just drew you in. She always put you right at ease - immediately - with her genuine interest in your life and your family. It was a real gift. If you shared a meal in her home, you never left without a "care package." And, boy!, were they delicious. What a cook!

Jane Carol Mixon was born in Norphlet, AR on February 7, 1936, to the late Milam and Inita Mixon. (Her late and cherished sister, Becky Mixon Mullins, was born in 1940.) A few years later, the Mixon family moved to Magnolia, AR where Janie graduated (with honors) from Magnolia High School in 1954. She attended Meadow-Draughon Business College in 1956, prior to working with McKay, Anderson, and Crumpler Law Firm in Magnolia.

Janie married her hero, Richard (Dick) Longing on January 20, 1956, and thus began a loving and dedicated union that lasted 66 years. So greatly loved, they were an inspiration to many, and faithfully upheld a marriage that please the Lord.

In 1959, Janie and Richard moved to Little Rock where he took a job with National Investors Insurance Co. before becoming Director of Commerce for Governor Dale Bumpers. In 1973, the family moved to Conway, AR where Mr. Longing began a real estate career which Janie diligently supported and helped to prosper.

Janie Longing is survived by her faithful and loving husband, Richard, beloved son Stephen (Steve) Lee Longing (Beth) of Conway and lovely daughter Eve Longing Callahan (Todd) of Brentwood, TN. Four adored grandchildren - Jacob Hunter Longing (Holly) and Hannah Beth Longing of Conway, Parker Sean Callahan and Anna Elizabeth Callahan of Brentwood, TN. And three beautiful great-grandchildren - Whitlee, Milam, and Hunter Longing of Conway, Brother-in-law Mike Longing (Jan) of West Monroe, LA and
sister-in-law Susan Longing Alexander of Conway. Along with many nieces and nephews, there were church friends, old friends, new friends, and precious neighbors-Janie loved them all!

We will miss Janie Longing and will remember her as - trusted and loving wife, dedicated mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, loyal sister, faithful friend, and passionate Child of the King! Her favorite scripture,
"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind."
2 Timothy 1:7

A celebration of life honoring Janie Longing will be held at Woodland Heights Baptist Church in Conway on Monday, January 10, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. Attendees are requested to wear masks and be mindful of social distancing. A private burial service will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Park prior to church service. In lieu of flowers, Janie had requested that donations to her church be considered.

The celebration of life service will be live streamed at whbcconway.org

Janie's welcoming smile and sincere caring warmth always let me know she was glad to see me. I looked forward to her taking my hand and leading me into the Kitchen (always ready for Ice Cream) or down the hall or outside as she happily wondered about her pleasant home. Janie will be missed. I look forward to seeing her when we meet in that beautiful place Jesus has gone to prepare for us. Your family is blessed to have her all these years and to have all the prayers she has prayed for you all.
You'll are in my thoughts and prayers.

So very sorry for your loss. Mrs. Janie was always such an inspiration to me - seemed she always had such a cheerful smile and contagious laugh no matter what she was going through. I'll never forget her joy in presenting her ''singing'' dog! Jamie's sister, Mrs. Becky Mullins was so dear to us and having her sister Janie in the family made it so much more special. Sending prayers for you all…

Janie truly was one of the most Christ like women I had the privilege of knowing. She always treated me like we were friends who hadn't met in a long time and wanted to catch up on what I was up to. How my family especially my boys were. I enjoyed times with her at FBC working with the children and Bible School. Y'all are so fortunate to have had her as long as you did. My Love and prayers for you All.

So very blessed to have known the love and kindness of Janie. She allowed everyone to feel the love of Jesus when in her presence. Her sweet smile, loving hugs and encouraging words made you walk away a better person than when you arrived. Heaven's gain is our loss here on earth … but encourages us to try to show God's love to all we come into contact with daily. Praying for you Dick, Steve and Eve, as well as the rest of the family. ❤️

I am so sorry to hear of Janie's passing. We met Dick and Janie in 1987 when my husband, Merl, started working in their real estate office. We were so impressed with the both of them and their children, they made us feel like family as well. We have continued to be friends even after Merl's passing. Janie was truly a friend to all who knew her and made everyone feel welcome in their home and her Christian witness was one we should all strive for. God bless each of you during this time.
