Betty Jean Avey, age 93, passed away Monday, December 20, 2021, at Stone County Medical Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. Betty was born February 26, 1928 to Clarence and Essie Farris Anderson in Newnata, Arkansas.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Brenda Lewis; son, Stacey (Renee) Avey; brother, Jim (Ruth) Anderson of Newnata; grandchildren, Mitch (Bridget) Lewis, Justin (Sarah) Lewis, Chris (Kallie) Avey, Zach (Josey) Avey, and Audrey Avey; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister-in-law, Nancy Anderson.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Erstle Avey; brothers, Clarence Anderson, Jr. and Glen Anderson; sister, Maxine Hankwitz; sons-in-law, Merl Lewis and Bill Bailey.
Betty always had positive things to say about everyone she met or she didn't say anything at all. She was a very loving and caring person and never met a stranger. She enjoyed over the years watching and following her children and grandchildren in all of their activities and they called her ''Granny Betty.'' Betty was a homemaker and helped on the chicken and cattle farm for years. In the 70's, Erstle and Betty owned and operated the Newnata Grocery and Post Office until Erstle's health declined in the early 80s. During her time with the public, she knew everyone and was known as ''The Sweetest Little Lady.'' She enjoyed going to church and listening to music groups along with her hobbies of sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She loved playing cards with her friends and after moving to Residential Care she became the ''Bingo Mama.'' Every time you visited her she was either playing Bingo or doing the ''word find books.''
Betty lived a long and happy life and left us all with Happy Memories. She will be missed by all her family and friends.
Visitation will be 10:30 AM Thursday, December 23, 2021, at Roller Crouch Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 AM with Brothers Gary Ragland, Randy Long, and Junior Barham officiating. Burial will at Big Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mitch Lewis, Justin Lewis, Chris Avey, Zach Avey, Lance Anderson, and Dalton Lewis.
Roller Crouch Funeral Home in Mountain View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Avey was a wonderful friend with my mother Ima Cruse from the early days of American Legion dances until Mom passed in 2004. Mrs. Avey raised fine children and made an impact on the lives of many others. She was asset in her Newnata community as a postmaster and a store owner. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. My deepest sympathies, Robbie Cruse Purdom
