Willa Jean McMahan

of Marshall, AR

August 11, 1942 - November 25, 2021

Willa Jean McMahan, age 79 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Thursday, November 25th, 2021 at her home. She was born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 11th, 1942 to John B. Gordon and Edith E. Avey Sutterfield.

Willa married Wilbur McMahan on May 11th, 1963. They were married 52 years before Wib's death in 2015. Willa and Wib ran the Daisy Queen for some time when they moved back from St. Louis. Afterwards she worked as a secretary in various capacities including Flintrock Shirt Factory, Searcy County Sheriff and Collector's office and for the Prosecuting Attorney's office. After retiring she and Wib enjoyed camping, fishing and floating the Buffalo. They raised cattle and worked the farm together. They also enjoyed gardening. Willa enjoyed going on trips with her closest friends. They especially liked having lunch together, visiting and having a good time.

Survivors include her step-daughter, Adalea Horton and husband Donnie of Marshall; grandsons, Josh Horton and wife Sheena of Ozark, MO, Caleb Horton and wife Sara of Greenbrier and Jared Horton of Orlando, FL; great-grandchildren, Drew, Gage, Nash, Gentry Jo, Carter and Avery; nephews, Mike Gordon who cared for Willa like a son, daughter Jessica and son Shawn of Licking, MO, John Gordon and son CJ of Rolla, MO, Clark McMahan and wife Cindy, son, Tyler and his wife Caitlin and grandson, Wyatt of St. Louis, MO, Craig McMahan and wife Karen and sons, Chris and Stephen of New Baden, IL, and David Shaw, son, Josh and wife, Megan and their four children, Shannon, Ronan, Fallon and Alden, all of Gordensville, VA; one niece, Rita Graveley and husband Peter and their son, Joseph of NC; cousins, Sharon Driskill who was like a sister to Willa, of Georgetown, TX and Terry Madden who was like a son to her, of Yellville; her aunt, Bobby Huddleston who she considered a sister, of Springdale; very dear friends, Judy Griggs and Nadra Evans; and many extended family and friends who will also mourn her passing.

Willa is preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith Sutterfield; her husband, Lonnie Wilburn McMahan; one brother, JC Gordon; niece, Sharon Craft Shaw; and great-grandson, Cade Horton.

Graveside services for Willa will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 29th, 2021 at McMahan Cemetery, 1909 River Road, St. Joe, AR with Bro. Donnie Horton officiating. Honorary bearers will be Mike Gordon, Greg Avey, Terry Madden, Alan Huddleston, Josh Horton, Caleb Horton and Jared Horton. Burial will follow where Willa will be laid to rest beside her husband, Wib.

I have so many fond memories of Willie when we worked together at Flint Rock Shirt Company. She was such a joy to work with. Her smile and her infectious laugh brightened the entire office! Prayers for her family and friends. She will be missed!
