James Lee George

of Elaine, AR

October 11, 1937 - November 10, 2021

James Lee George, 84, of Elaine, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in his home surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.

James grew up in St. Charles, Arkansas and was the oldest of nine siblings. He grew up loving the outdoors and especially hunting and fishing. James began work at a young age to help support his family and would carry that strong work ethic throughout his life.

He served in the Army National Guard in his early 20's. He worked in and managed graineries in Dewitt, Stuttgart, and Elaine for 67 years.

James was married to his wife Patsy for 43 years. He was known as an outstanding crappie fisherman and loved nothing more than cooking fish fry dinners for his friends and family. Besides fishing, James' other hobby was his garden. He loved growing vegetables and had a huge garden. He could be seen dropping off produce on many of the Elaine porches all summer long. He was especially known for his tomatoes- which were a favorite of people from Elaine all the way to Heber Springs.

James was a member of the Elaine United Methodist Church and also the Elaine American Legion, where he served as commander for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Corbett George and Sarah Jane George; sister, Opal Robinson; four brothers, Leonard George, Robert George, Dwight George and WR George.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy George; daughters, Denise Peterson (Jason) of Maumelle and Terri Jackson of Hilo, Hawaii; grandson, Todd Jackson of Atlanta, Georgia; brother, Jessie George of Marvell; three sisters, Sara Freeman, Rhonda Sheridan, and Robin Jackson all of Heber Springs.

Memorials may be made to Elaine United Methodist Church at 202 Kelly Ave, Elaine, Arkansas 72333 or The American Cancer Society at PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

A memorial service for Mr. James Lee George will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2021 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Brother Luke Watson will officiate.

Services are directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870)-572-2571. Relatives and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/westhelena.
