Catherine E. Pannell

of West Memphis, AR

May 9, 1927 - November 5, 2021

Catherine E. Pannell, 94, of West Memphis, passed away at her home on Friday, November 5, 2021.

Catherine was born on May 9, 1927, to Cecil and Talitha Coburn, in Wilson Arkansas where she graduated from Wilson High School and once held the state record for most points scored in a girls basketball playoff game. She went on to have a thirty-five year career with Southwestern Bell, and was a devout member of First Baptist Church of West Memphis.

Married to Gerald Pannell on December 24, 1955, Catherine had two sons, Michael and Keith. The Pannell home was open to all, and there was rarely a day they weren't visited by neighbors, friends, and relatives. Many of those friends became family, and Catherine considered herself a second mother to her ''sons-in-love,'' Charles Clark, Brad Scott, and Dennis Cole, and embraced their families as her own.

Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Pannell, her sister, Ludien Stephens, and brothers, Cecil, Curtis, Marion, and John Coburn, and son-in-love Brad Scott. She is survived by her sons, Keith Pannell (Paula) and Michael Pannell (Phoebe), her sister Betty Stafford, and brother Willis Coburn.

Catherine will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Samantha Vincent, Darren Clark, Rylle Pannell, Ryan Pannell, Anna Scott, Stone Pannell, and Rainey Pannell, who have all declared themselves her favorite.

I always loved Catherine. I will cherish my adventures from Memphis to Washington D.C. with her and Ludein in a Uhaul truck. If you know you know. No dull moments, lots of chitter chatter and life lessons for a 20 something and her seasoned compadres. I do have a few of her recipes that live on. Her love of friends and family is a gift that keeps giving. RIP dear Catherine
