Charlene Cothern Gill

of Holly Springs, MS

November 9, 1926 - September 23, 2021

Charlene Cothern Gill, 94, of Holly Springs Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021. Charlene was born on November 09, 1926 in Slayden, Mississippi to Charlie and Gertrude Mackey Cothern.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gus Daniel Gill, Sr.; Granddaughter Veronica Rodriquez; 2 great grandchildren India Moore and Laila Reymundo; 7 sisters Bernise, Velma ''Tootsie'', Nadine, Myrtice, Annie Laura, Lorene, and Jane. Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Gus Daniel Jr. (Norma); 3 daughters, Trudy Price (Mike), Polly Gill, and Sarah Underwood; 7 grandchildren: Hugh Allen Pace Jr., Jennifer Pace Leavitt (Jeff), Blaine Pace, Amanda Pace Bass (Chris), Heather Moore Foley (Joseph), Ashley Moore Reymundo (Mauricio) and Stone Underwood Kelly (Devon); 7 Great Grandchildren: Hunter Thompson, Joseph Foley III, Eliza Foley, Gus Foley, Levi Reymundo, Addison Bass and Oliver Bass; and one sister Barbara Sue.
Charlene was the oldest member of Slayden Baptist Church where she also gave her life to Christ as a Child. She then served the Lord as the minister of music or as she called it '' The Song Leader'' for many years at Joiner Baptist Church in Joiner Arkansas. She loved to cook, often made homemade donuts for the teachers, and cookies for ROTC, even gifted her family with cakes and pies at Christmas. Charlene retired at Food Service Director at South Mississippi County Schools ( Rivercrest). She was sassy, witty, determined, and stubborn. Much of her time was spent tending to her children and her husband Gus. She was devoted to him beyond measure, making sure he had his coffee waiting on him every morning and a hot meal every night, even wearing a red dress to his funeral because he bought it for her. When she wasn't tending to the family or working, her hobbies included painting, collecting giraffes, gardening, sewing and shopping. It was said she never bought something that was not on sale.
Memorials can be made in her honor to Joiner Baptist Church, St. Jude or American Cancer Society,.

How sorry I am to hear of Mrs Gill’s passing. I was a 1975 graduate of Rivercrest High School and I never forgotten her smiling face. God bless the family now and the days and months ahead without her.
