Franklin Keith Parker

of Harrison, AR

June 19, 1964 - September 15, 2021

Keith Parker, age 57, of Harrison, died of a heart attack at his home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. He was born on June 19, 1964, to George and Bonnie Parker, at the Boone County Hospital in Harrison.

He was a welder, builder, fabricator, and cowboy all his life. He began his rodeo career in the junior ranks working three rough stock events, but by high school he had settled on bareback riding, even though in 1982 he won the Arkansas High School Saddle Bronc Riding Championship. Parker was a good teamster and began driving his own wagon on the bicentennial wagon train when he was only 12 years old. Parker went to the National High School Rodeo Association finals three times. During a career that spanned over 20 years, he won multiple titles, trophy saddles, and buckles in several rodeo associations. At his last finals performance in 2000 at the American Cowboys Rodeo Association, he was named Champion Bareback Rider and won the average at the finals.

Parker is survived by his parents, George and Bonnie Parker; his sister, Kathy Parker and her partner Mike Price, who considered Keith his brother; his aunt and uncle, Dickie and Jimmie Parker; double cousins, Kevin (Jennifer) Parker and Kim (Tommy) Ferguson; and many extended family members and good friends.

There will be a celebration in his honor at a later date.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I've been away from AR. for years. George I will never forget the comfort you gave me telling me stories about Daddy when he left this world so soon. I wish I'd been there to return the favor. Bonnie my heart aches for you. Love you both. Vaughn Booker's daughter. Cheryl

These words taken from a book entitled “After Forever Ends” made me think of you: “ Mum used to say we were the same soul split in two and walking around on four legs. It seems unnatural [growing up] together and then dying apart.” You have the best memories and stories of family. Keep riding, my friend. Brothers are forever.

Growing up right down the road from the Parker family made for some incredible memories and perhaps a shenanigan or two. Horse shows, 4H, rodeos, trail rides - Keith is a part of all those memories. He was one of a kind.
