Barbara Anne (Scott) Billingsley

of Marvell, AR

August 13, 1941 - August 10, 2021

Barbara Anne (Scott) Billingsley, 79, of Marvell, Arkansas, left this earth and went to be in the presence of her Heavenly Father on August 10, 2021, three days before her 80th birthday. She was born Aug. 13, 1941 in Phillips County, Arkansas, the youngest of four children born to William T. Scott and Laura Pearl Snider Scott.

She graduated from Barton (Ark.) High School, class of 1959, married her high school sweetheart Rivers Billingsley, and then attended and graduated from LPN school. She worked for Drs. McCarty, Faulkner, McDaniel for more than 20 years, until she obtained her RN license and started her tenure at Arkansas Health Department, ending as a home health care nurse.

Barbara was well known for loving and caring for others with excellence and demonstrated that by being a dedicated nurse for over 50 years.

She was a loving wife to Rivers for 62 years, and a thoughtful and devoted mother to her only daughter, Karen. She loved all of her family: cousins, nieces and nephews as though they were her own children.

Barbara also shared that love with nearly everyone around her as generously as she could. She enjoyed giving gifts to others, and, although it was not uncommon to receive jewelry or something Razorback themed, she specialized in gifts of food. Barbara could bake just about anything she wanted, but she was very nearly famous for her homemade apple cake.

Barbara loved the Lord with all her heart and never failed speak of her faith to those around her. She accepted Christ at a young age and faithfully served her church and community as long as she was able. Her love for the Lord was rivaled only by her passion for the Arkansas Razorbacks (she is probably up there just now teaching all the saints to call the Hogs!) and all creatures great and small; but especially cocker spaniels.

While Barbara was on this earth, no turtle in her path would ever be left to make its way across the dangerous road without help, nor was any dog ever more loved or spoiled than the one that made its way into her home and heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, William J Scott and Mary Scott Malone.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Rivers Billingsley; her daughter Karen (Brad) Riegler; three granddaughters, Kate (Joshua) Matlack, Elizabeth (Ross) Adams and Anne Karen (Thomas) Tolbert, and six great grandchildren; sister, Mabel Skinner; and many adoring nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service for Mrs. Barbara Anne (Scott) Billingsley will held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 13, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will begin an hour before the service at 9:00 a.m. at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Brother J.E. Hughes will officiate.

Pallbearers are Brad Riegler, Larry Malone, Chuck Ward, Ethan Ward and Joe Green.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebohner Children's Hospital or a Cocker Spaniel Rescue.

Services are directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870)-572-2571. Relatives and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/westhelena.

Rivers, I just now read Barbara's entire obit and found out she was your wife. I'm sorry I didn't read it when it was first posted. Every time I would look at the obits, I would see her and for some reason, this time, it rang a bell. Then I read it all the way and found out then that she was your wife. Man, I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my wife 2 plus years ago and know that you are going through some rough times right now. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Known the Scott family all my life from our Church of the Nazarene heritage. We kept in touch through Facebook. She was with my mother during my mom's final days. She was a strong Christian. Our faith tells us we will meet again.

The part of the obituary that says that Barbara was well-known for loving and caring about others is the absolute truth. She was gentle and kind-hearted. She was also a wonderful example for us girls growing up in church about what a Godly woman looked like and acted like. She never failed to be a positive witness of her deep and abiding faith. She will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to family and friends. I went to school with Barbara in the first grade and later in the 6th thru 8th grades, but had not seen her since. Had a few exchanges on Facebook where she seemed to be the head cheerleader for the Razorbacks. I left Arkansas in late 1959, but am still rooting for the "Hogs". Rivers and I graduated together at Central HS, but I've not seen him since. Anyone who ever knew Barbara knows that our loss is Heaven's gain.
