of Little Rock, AR
September 14, 1969 - July 28, 2021
Raymond "Kyle" Linson, beloved son, brother, and friend to many, was born on September 14, 1969 in West Plains, Missouri to Bill and Beverly (Lowe) Linson.
On July 28, 2021, he accepted his promotion to direct a glorious choir in heaven at the age of 51.
Kyle graduated from Arkansas State University with a degree in secondary vocal music education. He taught high school choir at Sikeston High School, while also serving as music director for local churches and community choirs.
Shortly thereafter, he pursued his dream of directing choral music in the Methodist church and accepted a call to lead at St. John's United Methodist in Memphis, Tennessee. Next, he accepted an appointment to Central United Methodist in Kansas City. His ultimate goal was to serve as music director at the First United Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas, to which he accepted the call in 2013.
In his mother's words, "Kyle knew everybody. He never met a stranger." And, as his legion of friends throughout the midwest and south will attest, this is true. Kyle was incredibly gifted at getting things done on a grand scheme. His talent for taking small ensembles and growing and developing them into world-class choirs, one of which performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City, was truly inspirational.
Kyle is survived by his parents, Bill and Beverly of West Plains, MO, a brother Craig (Marci) of Blue Eye, MO, nieces Katie (Mason) Farris and grand-niece Goldie, of Lynchburg, VA, and Tressa (Jeremy) Asbury, of Joplin, MO. Kyle is also survived by a very loving group of friends, and if we began to call them by name, it would take forever. However, the family is grateful for Dennis Horn, Connie Hartline, Laine Harber, Pastor Donna Hankins, Justin Donaldson, Pastor David Freeman, and Darrin Clanton, among many, many others.
While our hearts are broken and our tears flow freely, we know that every teardrop is physical evidence of the fullness of our hearts; hearts abundantly filled with joyful memories of Kyle.
Kyle is preceded in death by his grandparents Bill and Tressa Linson and Raymond and Dorothy Lowe.
Kyle's dear friends in Little Rock are planning a celebration of his life to be announced at a later date. The family will have a private burial service in the coming days in Thayer, Missouri.
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, for memorial gifts to First United Methodist Church, 723 Center Street, Little Rock, AR 72201.
I can't express my sorrow upon learning this news. I will treasure each memory of Kyle. I'll see ya up there, buddy!
I am a 1994 graduate of Sikeston Senior High. I was only able to know Kyle for a short time after he succeeded Willie Grega as Choral Director. What a guy! He was able to fill pretty big shoes with grace and confidence and left an indelible mark on me in a short time. He was genuinely caring and invested in his students and worked tirelessly to make us better. Rest easy Kyle, a whole bunch of singers and musicians look forward to singing with you again one day! Justin
We love you very much Kyle! You left Us too soon. Well in God's hands you’re called. I can’t think of a better place to be ! Joey and Lisa
Kyle, I have always loved your biting wit, the absolute joy you find in music, and the sweet, wonderful spirit that was so evident to those who knew you. It is difficult for those of us who love you to lose such a beautiful life force that you were in our lives. I'm a little jealous that you're probably singing with Jessye and Sister Vestal right now, but I know you're right at home. I miss you and love you, friend.
Larry
Kyle
We will miss your shoe collection, your terroristic approach to canasta, your infinite capacity for empathy, and the courage you brought every day to seek love in the darkness.
Go with God friend,
Pacem
Colleen and I were shocked to hear of Kyle’s passing while we were on vacation. Kyle was a good friend and a wonderful colleague. After I left to serve at FUMC in Hot Springs, we stayed in touch and helped each other out on occasion sharing music and opportunities. Every time we saw each other or spoke, it was as though we had just seen each other the day before. Kyle’s humor, energy, gracious spirit, and joie de vivre will be greatly missed. His presence has been a gift to all of us who knew him. May God’s perpetual light shine upon him. I look forward to singing with him again one day in the heavenly choir. We love you Kyle!
Kyle, you were an amazing person, one of my favorite memories is when you had a lead role in our fourth grade musical and totally nailed it. Every day since that, only got better. Thank you for all that you gave to our graduating class and our high school concert choir. Kelly Dame, I'm sure, would be forever proud of you! I am better for having known you.
I was heart-broken to hear about Kyle. All years we worked together at St. John's and he always made me laugh. Just the most amazing co-worker and friend. He will be missed.
God speed to Kyle. Many hugs and prayers for Beverly and Bill. Love always, Sue Mashburn and families
I am still in shock over the loss of Kyle. My heart is sad.
He was such a joy to know in everything he did! His love of children made me love him even more!
Bill and Beverly, I am so sorry for your great loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
Although our paths crossed rarely after college, Kyle will always hold a special place in my heart. His humor, spirit, energy, and enthusiasm always lit up any group he was a part of. I saw on his posts the love and care he had for his church family. He will be truly missed.
Kyle will be missed by a lot of friends and family. This loss is huge for his FUMCLR family. I’m praying that he is having fun organizing a heavenly choir.
Our hearts are broken for Bill and Beverly for the loss of their son Kyle
I am so sad that Kyle has left this Earth, but what a fantastic choir Heaven will have now. I went to school with Kyle. He was truly a light to everyone. I remember his giggle. It was absolutely infectious! He will be so missed.
To The Linson family...
My heart is broken in a million pieces.
Thank you for sharing your son and brother with us all.
You're all in my prayers.
Kyle will be missed by so many. He was a true blessing and great person. Everyone at FUMC-LR will miss him terribly!
Beautiful talented soul. You were the kind and gracious inspiration to so many of us. From building the best choir in Memphis at St. John's to your dream job in Little Rock you selflessly shared your many talents to make us all better. Your God given humor and insight made us all better people and sometimes even better singers and artists. Our worship through your direction of works like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and the many choruses of The Messiah will forever be some of my best memories. May God bless you Kyle. May the peace and comfort that only our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ can provide be on your friends and your family. Our hearts are broken and we will mourn for a time...but I am confident that God's choir now has one of the best choir masters the earth has ever offered. You will be sorely missed my friend.
I belong to another Little Rock UMC's choir and was fortunate to have been directed by Kyle during several festivals and joint services. He immediately embraced everyone with love and total acceptance. His joyful, "Lift your palate for Jesus!" during a rehearsal has become my favorite singing motto. My love and prayers to his family and many friends. He was - and is - truly a Child of God.
I’m so privileged to have known Kyle over the past 8 years. What a joy it was to sing and make music with him. He loved my family and we loved him. He always had a smile and a kind word and a big hug for is. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends, here and everywhere. He leaves a big hole in our lives. I’ll be sending up a song for you, Kyle.
From the first moment I met Kyle he was family. His amazing love and passion touched so many and he loves on in our hearts! I’m joining your celestial choir someday - save me a place!!
Kyle was an amazing voice teacher to Emily and Gracie. We all loved him so much. We are heartbroken.
Keeping Kyle’s family in my prayers.
I am so sorry to Kyle's family and friends for his loss. I was a member at St. John's UMC in Memphis while Kyle was the music director there. Kyle was wonderful, such a loving and friendly person!. The choir he directed was awesome under his leadership. I'll always remember Kyle with great fondness.
What a gift Kyle was and is! I will never meet another Kyle, and feel especially blessed that I did.. and happy and sad, and like laughing, singing and crying all at the same time! Thank you Kyle; you will be missed and celebrated.
Kyle shared his love of music with everyone! I was lucky to be a part of his Tuesday lunch Bell Choir. We’d laugh, ring our bells, laugh some more, eat lunch, and laugh some more. After being with Kyle I’d leave with a happy smile on my face and the imprint of his love in my heart!
Words fail us at a moment like this! Kyle so full of life. He would walk in a room and the room would light up
I have been under many choral directors in my 69 years and he was by far the most talented man. He could pull beautiful music out of a sow’s ear.
He was the best dog sitter on earth. He loved our pups like his own. He always took such good care of them.
We will miss you dear friend. Our hearts are broken, but we will see you again.
He was a high school friend. I reconnected with him on Facebook. I enjoyed his live feeds. I will miss him dearly. I will miss his smile and sense of humor.
I am so sorry for your loss. I grew up with Kyle in school and church. He was a really nice guy. I will be praying for your family.
I am very grateful to have known Kyle. He brought God’s presence to me through his music in a way I had never experienced. I loved his sense of humor and his unique ability to relate to others. Kyle was a good man, and I join countless friends and acquaintances who loved him in sending love and sympathy to his family. Mary Lee Marcom
What a beautiful person. A joy to everyone who knew him. He made many of us love music like we had never done before. His precious demeanor, talent and sweet countenance will be so missed. Love you Kyle.
Kyle was a high school friend and will be greatly missed. He always knew how to make you laugh and had an amazing personality and singing voice. Prayers for comfort.
Whenever you saw Kyle he always greeted with a smile and a hug. He always made you feel loved and welcome in his space. What a dear soul who always put a smile on my face. Peace to his family and the many who can call him friend.
Larry and I began our time together in an apt directly over Kyle’s apt. Shared laughter, meals and so many gatherings at the Daniels-Hickey home. Kyle was a musical genius, a member of the Linson clan, and friend to so many. Soar high amongst the angels Kyle. Your infectious spirit will comfort all who mourn your departure from us on earth. It was pure joy to have known you.
Kyle was a wonderful, funny, talented person. He will be missed!!!
Bill, Beverly. Craig and all your family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. God bless and hold you close is my prayer.
Kyle - you mean the world to Jeffery and I along with so many others. This has been a hard week, to say the least, but we know you are at heavenly rest with our Savior. You've been an amazing choir director, music minister, but an even more amazing friend. They gang gathered last night in your honor, and well...we're just kind of lost without you at the table. Jeffery and I were so honored to have you officiate our wedding in March - your first, and only one. You made the day so very special and we will never forget the wonderful memories we have created with you over the years. You are missed but I promise, you will never be forgotten. Love you boo.
Kyle. Your light and love will carry on in the lives of those who were blessed to know you. Just as I am incredibly sad to be typing this, I am equally grateful to be amongst those who have experienced the warmth of your friendship. Rest in power and grace my dear friend.
Kyle, I think you are the only person who ever gave me courage to sing - I look back on my short time with you at St. John's with so much joy. I still sing so many of those beautiful songs and hymns now, all these years later. You are so loved and will be so missed.
Kyle was a dear friend from high school and I have so many fond memories with him. He was an amazing man. Kyle was so full of life, and he had the best laugh in the world. We lost touch after graduation but I have never forgotten my friend. My condolences to the Linson family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, laaaaa.
Kyle loved his St. John’s Altos. I will always remember how he would stand behind me and sing the alto part of a song so I could hear it because I couldn’t read music. What a sweetheart. Good times, The Cabaret Night, the CD recordings, the big Holiday practices And Christmas parties. Yes Good Times.
Beverly, Bill, and family,
I was so saddened to hear we had lost Kyle. He was one of my sweet fifth graders! I have enjoyed interacting with him on his weekly program on Facebook.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. May God grant you peace and comfort.
Kyle was a fun unique man with great tenacity. He brought laughter to many of his friends. His voice of praise would lift you to many levels and make you think about the glory of God!! Kyle you will be greatly missed but not forgotten!!
Mr. Linson was my high school choir director. I learned so much from him. With the marvel of Facebook, I was able to reconnect and follow his ministry. Prayers of peace and comfort for his friends and family.
Kyle was a wonderful light in the world and extended family to so many. 😞
I will miss you dearly my friend. Don’t ever stop singing with your beautiful voice. Now you’re one of God’s angels in the choir. Sing strong Kyle.
My soul is empty from this loss.
My soul is empty from this loss.
Kyle was such a great leader of the choir at St. John's in Memphis. He led many a funny rehearsal and energized the church. We made CD's and had several concerts. He was dearly loved and his presence will be missed.
We send our love and prayers. We are friends of some of his local friends in ministry and deeply admire his life lived. Much prayer for your comfort as he now receives his rest and reward in paradise.
