of Marshall, AR
June 26, 1932 - July 17, 2021
Ralph W. Reed, age 89 of Marshall, Arkansas passed from this life on Saturday, July 17th, 2021 at NARMC in Harrison, Arkansas. He was born in Imo, Arkansas on June 26th, 1932 to Shim Reed and Ruby Lathum Reed (Halsted).
Ralph (also known to his family as Raphael) was an oldest son, brother, husband, dad, pop, Papa Reed, uncle, cousin, friend and US Army career Veteran. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and served our country for 20 years. Ralph loved his family, his big extended family, God, his country, his fellow veterans, raw peanuts, Barbara's apple pie, Deb's peach cobbler, Pat's dumplings, coffee with powdered creamer and cooking for the camp-Army or deer camp at Sylamore, especially breakfast. He always set up camp with great supervision and precision, as if his life depended on it because in his case it did. His military job was being responsible for the cook camp and supervision of food supplies for his troops in Vietnam. He was military through and through, loyal to the core, opinionated and expressed those opinions freely. You were in his Army even if you didn't want to be drafted. Ralph loved spending time with all the kids, spending time with "the sisters" and fishing in his boat with Darrell and Ernie. His contribution at every family pot luck was fried chicken and banana pudding. He visited at the mountain house almost every weekend on his way to the cemetery to visit his wife Delaine and most recently on her birthday to bring new flowers. Ralph's tour of duty is complete. Go rest high on that mountain son, your work on earth is done.
Survivors include his children, Deborah LaValle and husband Vincent of Fairfield Bay, Ricky D. Reed and wife Cheryl of Marshall and Tammy Reed Cantrell, also of Marshall; grandchildren, Keri Standridge of Marshall, Nick Reed (Darcie) of Mountain Home, Brandt Reed (Kelsey) of Marshall, Chance LaValle (Kimberly) of Marshall and Maegan Cantrell of Mountain Home; great-grandchildren, Kolsen, Keeton and Caroline Reed, Parker and Payzley Standridge, Jaden and Taylor LaValle, Charlee Ann and Savvy Reed, Daxton Cantrell and Aimsly Staggs; siblings, Paul Ray Halsted (Mary Lois) of Harrison, Darrell Halsted (Barbara) of Harrison, Kenny Halsted (Teresa) of Harrison, Janice Wadkins of Marshall, Thelma Rea (R.C.) of Marshall and Frances Brown (Gary) of Dardenelle; sister-in-law, Pat Halsted of Marshall; close friend, Esther Anderson of Marshall: and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will also mourn his passing.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Shim Reed and Ruby Lathum Halsted; his wife, Delaine Reed, who passed away in 2015; and brother, Ernie Halsted.
Graveside services for Ralph will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 23rd, 2021 at Chinquapin Cemetery near Marshall, Arkansas with Bro. James Tibbitts officiating. I was so very sorry to heard of Ralph's passing. I have alot of good memories of fishing and camping trips. He was Ernie's fishing buddy for years. In fact the first time I ever met Ralph was on one of my first dates with Ernie.....we met up with Ralph and went Walleye fishing at Greers.
It was so cold I wore Ernies cover-alls the whole trip. This was the start of a wonderful life with Ernie, Ralph and the family ...Im so thankful for the many good memories we all made together.
