of Sherwood, AR
January 2, 1937 - July 2, 2021
Dr. Jim Daniel, Senior care pastor at Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene, passed away Friday, July 2, 2021. He lived 84 ''fantabulous'' years! Growing up in Pickens Chapel, Arkansas, born to James C Daniel and Connie, he was known as Peewee up until he graduated high school.
Following in his grandfather's footsteps, he was called into the ministry at a young age and graduated from Bethany Nazarene College. Upon graduation, he attended Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO. He started his ministry in Little Rock, AR at Rosehill First Church of the Nazarene, and then moved to Texas where he pastored in Austin and San Antonio. God had plans for him to move to Oklahoma and lead a congregation in Henryetta and Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City. After leading the relocation at Trinity, God called him to Nall Avenue Nazarene Church in Kansas City where he faithfully served for 5 years. During these years, he received his doctorate from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. God had yet another plan for he and Sue. This time it was upstate New York where they experienced a wonderful ministry in Owego, NY. They fell in love with the beautiful country side and people in their church and would have enjoyed retiring there, but God guided them back to Little Rock. Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene needed a leader who had the vision and experience to build a new church and Pastor Jim was the man for the job. He retired from full time ministry in November 2005 but didn't stay retired. This man of God, who's calling was to serve others and further the kingdom of God was not finished yet. He became the Senior Care Minister at Little Rock First Church of the Nazarene where he served faithfully until his death.
Jim leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Sue Daniel of 38 years; his daughters from his pre deceased wife Jean Daniel; Marsha Kasianzcuk from California and husband John, and daughter from Chicago, Karla Ortiz and life partner Joe; step son from Houston, Scott Mowry and wife Kim; three grandchildren - Shenna Richardson from Arizona, Danielle Miller and husband Skyler from Tulsa, and Colton Engleman and wife Kaitlynn from Iowa; two step grandchildren - Kayla and Hayden Mowry; 4 great grandchildren - Madison, Lexi and Malachi Miller, and Eva Engleman. Winning people to the Lord was Jim's passion! Church was his first home, and the Lord his first love. He led a life of integrity and would regularly say, ''If I can lay my head on the pillow at night and know that there is nothing between my Lord and I, then I'm at peace.'' He was a prayer warrior for the Lord and had a direct line to heaven. One had to be thoughtful with what you asked Pastor Jim to pray for, because God listened intently to his requests and they were usually answered in record time! We were not ready to have him go home to the Lord, but we trust the Lord's divine timing and have no doubt they are having a ''fantabulous'' time.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 16th, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Roller-Owens Funeral Home in North Little Rock. Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 17th, at 10:00 am at Brockington Road Church of the Nazarene. Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm at Pickens Chapel Cemetery where Jim will be laid to rest.
The family is requesting that masks be worn out of respect for the terrible COVID virus that took Pastor Jim's life.
Jim baptised three of my children. Rsnce and I loved him dearly. I know he and Rance are having a good time with each other. We shared many Sunday lunches together. Goodbye old friend I will see you at Jesus’s feet.
My husband (Ron) and I first met Pastor Jim and his precious wife Sue when we started going to Brockington Rd Church of the Nazarene several years ago. His friendly warm smile is something I will always remember. We both enjoyed his sermons so much. After they left we would run into him and Sue at Wal-Mart's and other places quite often. and he would give you that big old smile. Our line was always, _" Are you following us" He will be greatly missed. Sue and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Just visualize his time with Jesus now. My prayers are with you. With love. Carolyn
Jimmy Daniels was the first Paster I can remember from my childhood when attending Rose Hill Nazarene. He was always a wonderful person. He was always a great role model for me and the other young people at Rose Hill. I had not seen him for many years until last December when he was a Co-Paster at my Dads funeral. I cannot express how happy my heart was just seeing him again even though it was at dads funeral. He will be greatly missed and I am sure many of us still benefit from his teachings. Farewell my old Friend and wishes for a good journey to Heaven.
When Jimmy and Gene came to Rose Hill Nazarine as "rookie" pastors, we got the whole package including beloved parents James and Connie. While the plant we built together under their tenure and leadership is now vacant, the gospel energy this family brought lives on in the continuing congregation and all of us alumni wherever we are. We thank God for "the Daniels" and pray for an outpouring of His peace on you all at this time. With love and blessing, Joe and family.
I was privileged to know this great man. He was a kind, caring person who lived people and life, and it showed. But, he loved God most and it shone through in his personality. He will be greatly missed. Praying for Sue and the whole family.
I am more thankful than I can say for the privilege of becoming acquainted with Dr. Jim Daniel. I wasn't living in North Little Rock during his time as Pastor or NLR First Nazarene/Brockington Road, but I very much enjoyed being at Church when I would be in to visit my family.
Dr. Daniel had a connection on my Mother's side of the family that made me proud. When my Grandmother, Rev. Mary Blanche Jones, passed away in 2002, he gave a tribute to her--her life and ministry and I grateful for those kind words and the comfort they gave me. This was characteristic of Jim Daniel's love for the Lord and those under his ministry. I wish for Sue and all the family that you are are loved and being lifted up in prayer.
Rev Jim Daniel family, remembering you at this time.
We are so thankful God allowed our paths to cross with Pastor Jim as we walked here on Earth. He was not only an excellant pastor and senior pastor for many years, but he was also our good friend, along with his precious wife, Sue. He taught us so many things about walking with the Lord and serving Him. He was a great example in all things. We are changed people because of Pastor Jim and Sue. Sending our love and praying for Sue and family.
I know he will be greatly missed. Sue, I’m sad for you but know God will see you through, much love
Bro. Daniel was never our Pastor, but over the years as members if Rose 🌹 Hill Nazarene Church, we were pleased to hear him substitute preach when our Pastor was gone & on many special occasions. He was a big part of Rose Hill & dearly loved by us all. He will be missed. RIP
A fine man, a friend, and a fine pastor. Louise and I both enjoyed being a member of his church. He is now resting in the arms of Jesus. Prayers for the family.
