of Harrison, AR
July 11, 1945 - July 2, 2021
Clara Belle Staggs received a healthy mind and body when she passed into the arms of her Savior on July 2, 2021. Clara was born on July 11, 1945, the first of four daughters born to J.T. and Maxine Flippo.
Clara graduated from Harrison High School in 1963 and later that fall married Ronald Staggs, whom she would love for the next 57 years. They relocated briefly to Killeen, Texas and upon their return to Harrison in 1968, Clara went to work for Campbell Insurance Agency where she served for the next 42 years, retiring in 2012.
Clara was a faithful member of the Batavia Baptist Church and lived a life of Christ-like servitude. She served for over 25 years as the church bookkeeper and song leader. She generously gave to many charities. She was an active community member, serving as the secretary-treasurer for the Capps Community Club and Capps Cemetery. She was also a member of the Batavia Friendship Club and served over 10 years with the Pampered Feet Ministry of the North Arkansas Baptist Association.
When she wasn't volunteering, Clara enjoyed collecting frog figurines, Fostoria crystal, going to yard sales, and listening to Alan Jackson and George Strait. Family gatherings were her greatest joy; she loved planning them and was usually the first to show up and one of the last to leave. Her made-from-scratch German chocolate cakes were famous, often fetching over $100 at charity auctions. Her deviled eggs were second to none and Easters without her Jell-O eggs will never be the same. Her family treasures their many memories of her kind and gentle spirit.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Frank Mathis. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Staggs, of the home; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Janet Mathis, Patricia and Don Wray, and Connie and Don Trublood, all of Harrison; a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own; many in-laws; a large extended family; and the congregation at Batavia Baptist Church.
Visitation was held Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
The funeral service was Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at the Batavia Baptist Church, officiated by Brother Kerry Liggett.
Pallbearers were Terry Estes, Baxton Mathis, Cortland Mathis, Zach Trublood, Donald Wray, and Joshua Wray.
Honorary pallbearers included Clara's nieces and nephews and her caregiver, Kerry Campbell.
Interment was at York Cemetery in Bergman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Batavia Baptist Church Mission Fund, 8415 Hwy. 392 W, Harrison, AR 72601
