Linda Sue Matthews, 80, of Batesville died Sunday, June 27, 2021 at White River Medical Center after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Born August 21, 1940 in Magness, Arkansas she was the daughter of James Audary and Mary Lee Caldwell Matthews. She grew up in Newark, Arkansas and graduated as Valedictorian from Newark High School. After obtaining a B.A. in Business Administration at Arkansas College she worked for a law firm in Batesville, Arkansas. She then spent nearly 40 years in Washington, D.C.; first working for a lobbying firm, then as owner/operator of a successful transcription/desktop publishing business, The Ability Group. She retired in Batesville, where she frequently did work for Old Independence Regional Museum and the Independence County Historical Society.

Survivors include: a sister, Jane Marie Phillips of Michigan; nephews, Kim Phillips (Nancy) of Batesville, Michael Matthews (Elizabeth) of Texas, James Kendall Matthews (Angel) of Texas, Brandon Matthews (Genevieve) of Washington, Shane Phillips (Joany) of Benton, AR, Garrett Phillips (Sarah), of Michigan; nieces Beverly Regina Combs (Tyrone) of Michigan, Karen Leitch (Bobby) of Michigan, and Holly Phillips of Batesville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James Matthews (Murvel) and Jerry Matthews (Mary); and a sister, Wanda Morrow (John).

A memorial service and private burial will be announced at a later date.

Honorary pallbearers are Atif Khan, MD, Greg Neaville, MD., and her nephews.

A special thank you is extended to the wonderful nurses and staff at Batesville Oncology Clinic.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Independence Regional Museum.
