Jerry Emmit Goldsmith

of Clarksville, AR

December 11, 1946 - June 23, 2021

On June 23rd, 2021, the greatest man I ever knew, my Dad, Jerry E Goldsmith left this world to be together with his loving wife, Dorothy in their Heavenly home. He came into this world on December 11th, 1946, in Clarksville, Arkansas, to proud parents, Clyde Emmit and Lossie May Goldsmith.

At age 5 he lost his Dad in a tragic sawmill accident. His mother Lossie remarried two years later to Truman Warren, and he immediately gained two brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Clarksville High School in 1964 and attended The College of the Ozarks for one year until February 1965 when he married his lifelong sweetheart and love of his life for the next 43 years, Dorothy Jean White. Together they had one son ''me'' Jerry Vance Goldsmith in February 1966.

In the mid-60s he ran the first gas station to open at the 58 Exit on I-40 in Clarksville, it was a ''TEXACO''. In the late 60s early 70s, he owned and operated ''Goldsmith's Grocer and Gas'' at Woodland. After that he went to work for Singer in Clarksville until the late 70s when he started working in the real estate business and headed up the ''United Farm Agency'' office in Clarksville.
One of my Dad's favorite things to do was carpentry work. He loved to buy old houses and buildings and turn them into something nice, which he did pretty much all his life. My Dad enjoyed my mom's cooking as she was an excellent cook, so in the mid-80s they started up a small soup and sandwich shop on Main Street in Clarksville, Arkansas, called ''the Village Pantry'' and for the next three years we were all in the restaurant business.

He went to work for Sara Lee Hosiery as a maintenance mechanic in 1989 where he stayed until retiring in 2013. He was a strong Christian conservative with a big heart and a great love for God., Family and Country. My Dad was the greatest son, husband, father, and friend anyone can hope for.

He was preceded in death by his dear parents, Clyde and Lossie Goldsmith and his loving wife, Dorothy, plus several Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. Those staying behind for now are myself, Vance Goldsmith, my wife Lelona, with all her sisters and brothers that he thought of as his own, two brothers Jack and James Warren, 2 sisters Carol Warren and Gail Rhodes, three special cousins who thought of as his sisters, Glenda Gail Gibson, Laura Fern Vale, and Carol Sue Champagne, a very special brother and sister-in-law, Donny and Linda White, plus numerous other cousins and friends. His body was cremated and there will be a celebration of life memorial in his honor later this fall. In lieu of flowers please donate in his memory to Hedgeway Church.com/giving, click on Guatemala mission on Gideon International Bible Placement Program.

Anyone who knew or even met my Dad almost immediately liked him. He had a very calm, friendly, sincere, pleasing personality. He was good at business but never put that before family and friends. I only saw him raise his voice at another person a couple of times in my life and that person was me, but not because he was mean, but because he loved me and did not want me to mess up.
I love you Dad and will miss you very much, looking forward to seeing you again someday.

Your son, Vance

As if you could even know it, I can't say that I ever had a conversation with him beyond a friendly nod of working in the same place. I think I recognize the same name and face from that same building, now known as the Sara Lee company. Yet in that time it was known as the Singer company. We didn't make sewing machines, we made Craftsmen power tools for Sears then. Least till they'd lay us off each year after Christmas. Granted I spent 5-6 years there on night and day shift/s from a punk kid still in High school, on their paintline of fiberglass housings@2$/hr or the motor department as a material handler, even up to a stock room forklift operator for a whoping 5$ an hour. Yet I Remember and recognize this kind Face and Soul of a man / repairmen of either the motor dept. or assemble production too. Maybe both by the time I was laid off again in 79, and found a more steady job. Yet I never even had to speak with him to know that Jerry Goldsmith was Golden at what was expected of him in our Realm of getting our Jobs done then. God Bless his Survivors to be assured in knowing that from this punk kid then, of our time spent there.

I thought a lot of Jerry. He called me a few times and he wanted me to come by so he could have Vance show me what he had going on! He loved Vance so much and loved all the things Vance made! He was my cousin on my Dads side! I was just thinking the other day that I needed to go see him! So sorry for your loss!
