Katheryn Vernell Cox

of Heth, AR

January 7, 1948 - June 7, 2021

Katheryn Vernell Cox passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 in Memphis, Tennessee at the age of 73. She was born in Harrisburg, Arkansas on January 7, 1948 to parents Bill and Jewell Durham Campbell.

Later in life she and her family moved to the Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas area. There one day as she was doing some chores down by the lake, she was approached by a young man who had been driving by and saw her. He stopped and tried to introduced himself to her as Raymond Cox but she wasn't having any interest in him at the time. He just couldn't take no for an answer even as he drove away and had to turn around and make himself come back. Katheryn finally gave in to the young man's advances and little did she know she had just found the love of her life. On January 13, 1969 the two were bonded by God in marriage. The two were able to spend the next 52 years together, caring for and raising their own family until God called her home. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Shell Lake Baptist when she could. She was a homemaker. Katheryn loved to cook and sew but mostly she was the best wife, mom and grandmother to all.

Katheryn is also survived by four daughters, Brenda Burton (Scott) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Mary Kathryn Bush (Joe) of Hillsville, Virginia, Kerrie Smith of West Memphis, Arkansas and Melissa Powers of West Memphis, Arkansas. She also leaves two brothers, John Campbell of Marked Tree, Arkansas and Eugene Campbell of Hughes, Arkansas, two sisters, Verlon Stone of Marked Tree, Arkansas and Diane Davis of Bolivar, Tennessee. She will be deeply missed by seven grandchildren, Heather Coveny, Sierra Dunnam, Joseph Bush, Jessica Smith, Jared Burton, Katara Powers and Alexandra Powers as well as five great grandchildren, Philip Dunnam, Grace Dunnam, Jackson Smith, Londyn Hall and Jeremiah Shinault.

Katheryn is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers James Campbell, Carlton Rose, Donald Campbell, Billy Campbell and Clifford Campbell.
