James (Jim) Anton Spears, 86, of Gamaliel Arkansas, passed away on April 1, 2021, in Springfield, MO. He was born on June 18, 1934, to the late William Daniel and Sylvia (Lee) Spears in Stoddard, WI.
Jim served in the United States Army from November 1954 to August of 1956. He married the love of his life, Virginia Choate, on August 19, 1961. Jim was an avid reader and a Kansas City Chiefs fan. He enjoyed fishing and boating but what he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Virginia Choate Spears; one son, David Spears (Diana Gravitch); one daughter, Teresa Easley (Thomas); five grandchildren: Ryan, Lauren, Kobey, Jimmy and Elliot and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Spears; one brother, Bob Spears and sister, Sally Lewis.
There will be no services at this time.
Rest in peace, Jim.
Jim was a friend from soon after he moved to Mountain Home. He was a good friend, a good athlete, a good Boy Scout, ( we camped out a lot) a good drummer in the band and, most importantly, a good family man.
Looking at a comment he wrote in my high school annual in 1952, I was reminded of his subtle dry wit. We went in to the Army together in 1954 and went to boot camp in Ft. Jackson, S. C. He will be missed. Bill and Maribel Nelson
My condolences and prayers to all of his family and many friends.
Dear Ginger and family, I am so very sorry to hear about Jim's passing. I want you to know that I am thinking of you and praying for strength and peace for all of you.
Rest in Peace Uncle Jim. We will greatly miss you always and forever.
Rest In Peace Jim.
Love,
Patrick, Trisha, Penelope and Henry Choate
Jim was one of my longest standing friends of over 75 years and continued until last week when I was exploring the possibility of a fishing trip with him. Over the years we shared many experiences, Boys Scouts and the Drum and Bugle Corps, camping trips, working on his 1939 Crosley convertible, as well as trying to build a motor scooter. Mtn. Home High School Band, Toots Langston and the Crazy Eight Orchestra in MHHS, One camping trip I remember in particular. Jim his father and brother as well as his brother in law, Bill Lewis camped at the Narrows on Greers Ferry Lake It rained for a week and we stayed inside our cabin tent and played poker. Jim was my best man at my wedding in 1961 to Judy Crawford. Ginger was a bridesmaid and my memory is that Jim and Ginger were introduced at the wedding and later they were married. We renewed our friendship in retirement although there were telephone conversations over the years. Jim was an accommodating and sincere man. I will miss our telephone conversations May his family, although grieved, celebrate his long life that was well lived. I share your pain. Much love to all of the family.
