of Little Rock, AR
June 13, 1959 - March 26, 2021
Dr. Michael (Mike) Lynn Talbert went to be with Jesus on Friday, March 26, 2021, after a short battle with an aggressive cancer. He was born June 13, 1959 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After graduating from Jonesboro High School and then ASU, he went to medical school at UAMS. Afterwards, he completed his Radiation Oncology Residency at M.D. Anderson and began his practice in Little Rock, Arkansas - as a partner of ROAPA, serving at CARTI.
Mike's skill in Radiation Oncology earned him numerous awards over his 30+ years at CARTI - saving thousands of lives. But it was his love for his patients that made him a legend, cultivating a culture of warmth and care in the workplace. And his adoration for his family was contagious to everyone. Coworkers knew every story and picture. It is easy to be celebrated at work, but to be celebrated at work and home is a rare thing, indeed.
He loved to travel with his family, golf with his brother and friends, and be the best ''Gramps'' of all time to his three grandsons. He watched the movie Pele on repeat, blasted Adele from his phone in his pocket, and gave the most clever gifts at Christmas.
Mike died at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tina; his son, Justin; his daughter, Nina; his grandsons, Soren, Aksel, Isen; his parents, Lonnie and Lavern; and his brother, Gary.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 1 at 12:00pm at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (13801 Chenal Pkwy, Little Rock, AR 72211), followed by a time for visiting with the family.
Mike, Gary and I were Fraternity Brothers at ASU, what a great couple of guys. Although it had been a few years since I had seen Mike, when you know someone special, you don't always have to see them regularly to appreciate them. I had his Dad in class at ASU, he was proud of his sons. Mike knew how to balance his love of sports, social activities, and academics, to be the best at everything he set out to do. Mike helped me thru my wife's cancer diagnosis and passing in 2002.
Prayers for the family, God bless you all.
I just found out today about Dr. Talbert. I was a patient at Carti 25 years ago. He helped save my life. My condolences to his family. May you Rest In Peace Dr. Talbert and thank you.
It was with great sadness that I learned of Mike's passing. He and I were in residency together at MD Anderson. Mike was a wonderful friend to me during that time, an excellent resident physician, and a great tennis player! I will miss him. I send my condolences to Tina and the entire Talbert family. Both will be in my prayers.

I have layers of memories of Dr. Talbert. I worked at the VA for many years and it didn't take long to come across the Talbert boys. Fast forward, he was my dads doctor a time or two. Fast forward a bit more and he became my doctor. Then the next stage of my disease and he continued to come up with a plan. Somewhere in all of that I was entering the putting things back together surgery phase. Lo and behold another Talbert doc. He wasn't mine but he was just as friendly as if he was. ''My'' doctor Talbert spoke often of his family in passing...(once about how Mrs. Talbert disliked his love for that crossword app that he loved). Just a ''guy'' that helped lengthen my life more than once and that I will always remember with gratitude and a smile. My thoughts are with his family that he loved so much.
I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Talbert for many years and only heard of his passing today. Dr. Talbert will truly be missed and be remembered for his gentle, easy going spirit. I send my heartfelt condolences to Tina and the family. May God give you comfort during this difficult time. It was evident he adored his family and may memories of him bring you comfort.
Hi Tina,
I am shocked, so sad...
I am crying at home...
My heart, my mind my thoughts go to you and to your so sweet family...
Courage and all my tenderness...
Big big hug.â¤ï¸

We went to School together. Played 7 grade football at Doug Mac. Rip.
Just an awesome doctor and person. Always put the patient first. Hard to overstate Mike's impact on the development of cancer care in this state.
I am very sorry for your loss. He was a great colleague. He will be missed by many. May God be with you during this difficult time.
Kamal..

God bless the entire Talbert family especially Tina! He was truly a great friend, father, husband, and physician!
My heart goes out to the entire Talbert family. I am so very sorry and sending many prayers.
Dr. Talbert was a great physician. I am praying God gives you and your family peace and comfort.
It was with great sadness that my wife, Teresa, and I heard about Mike losing his recent health battle. As a General Surgeon, now retired, practicing at Baptist Health Little Rock, I had the pleasure of having Mike ( and his brother, Gary) rotate on my service during his early training that led to his eventually serving our community as a Radiation Oncologist. Over my 38 years of practice, I referred many of my cancer patients to Mike with the patients reporting how comforted and confident they felt under his care. This was especially true with our daughter-in-law whom Mike treated about 31/2 yrs ago for metastatic breast cancer. She told us many times how uplifting and encouraged he made her feel. Even though we lost her this last New Year's Day, our family is eternally grateful for improving her quality of life with his care and bedside manner. He was a valued colleague to me and physician to my patients during our careers together. We know that he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, colleagues and our community. Hopefully, he will still be practicing his "calling" where he is now.
Mike was a fantastic co-resident and great friend as we trudged through the halls of MD Anderson. I remember riding in his jeep with the top down and the AC blasting in hot and humid Houston. I loved making the silly resident spoof videos with Mike, Stan, and all the other radiation residents! Makes me smile to remember him and those busy times.
Tina, I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope you are well.
I worked with ‘Dr. T' several years at CARTI. His laid-back and easygoing manner was the perfect complement to his very high skill level in treating his patients. He made it look easy, but we all knew it was a very complex task. His intelligence, humor, warmth, and love of family were the hallmarks of a life well lived.
My heart goes out to you, Tina and to your entire family. May peace and love bless your family through this time.
I consider myself very fortunate to have been friends with both Mike and Gary back in days at ASU and getting to know Lonnie and Laverne added value to that friendship. We sure had many trips to Lake Norfork where we sure enjoyed our time.. The Talbert Family is in our prayers.
Mike leaves a legacy that is honoring to God. Praying for peace for the entire Talbert family.
I was blessed to have Dr. Talbert as my radiologist this past year at CARTI to help me. He was a wonderful doctor and a down right cool, compassionate human being that put me much more at ease facing radiation I did not want. I will always be grateful for his help and my heart goes out to his entire family and huge network of friends and others who have left messages like this to honor and bless him. May God rest his soul.
We share in your sadness. Our love and prayers are with each of you. May Mike‘s memory be eternal.
God Bless...Amy and Mike
So sorry for your loss. Dr. Talbert was a dedicated physician and kind professional. I worked at CARTI 20 years and Dr. Talbert was there the entire time. I remember when he and Dr. Cynthia Ross left the SVI CARTI and opened the Baptist CARTI unit. He took great pride in running the new facility and working with my department when insurance problems that would arise. He will truly be missed. Praying comfort for you and your family as you carry on his legacy.
We are very saddened by the passing of Dr. Talbert. We have known him for most of is career at CARTI and have benefitted from knowing him professionally and personally. Our deepest condolences to his family. He will be missed.
I worked for Dr. Talbert off and on for approximately 19 years. He was easy going, fun, kind and generous. I don't know how many Friday breakfasts and lunches he treated the crew to, But he also took time to expand my knowledge which I greatly appreciated as I was starting out in this field. Even when I only rarely helped out at BMC he invited me to a Christmas party he threw at his country club which was for the BMC crew.
He was always telling stories about his family and his golfing adventures. We traded new songs that we enjoyed. He was just an all-around great guy and his patients loved him.
May God guide those who care about him through these difficult times.
I have worked with Dr. Talbert for 6 years. He will be missed but he is not loss so I will not say sorry for your loss. He is with our Lord (Heavenly Father). 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
I worked with Dr. Talbert for years. He was an amazing man and physician.
Mike was an excellent physician and beloved family man. I'm heartbroken for your entire family. He leaves behind such a loving, powerful legacy of faith in each of you. Prayers with you all.
''Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His godly ones.''

My first year in medical school, Mike and Gary really enjoyed "educating" the freshmen who dared challenge them on the shuffleboard table at Peck's Bar. Much love to his family.
He was So fine, great student and caring man! This broke my heart!

Mike always made me smile even when he was beating me up on the golf course and to watch the brotherly love between him & Gary has always been something I envied especially since I only have sisters. In my mind I will always see Mike sitting in his back as I come down the fairway of # 15 Bear Den on a HOT summer evening ! Mike is one of the coolest guys I've ever meet!
Dearest Tina, Nina, Justin and family,
The most beautiful of love stories, not only in how you met, but how you lived. My deepest sympathies. Continued prayers for God's comfort and peace.

Although I only had the pleasure of working with Dr. Talbert for a short time, it was easy to see what a kind, gentle spirited and easy going man he was. My thoughts and prayers are with your family during this most difficult time. Please know he will be missed by so many.
We send our love and sympathy to Tina, Justin, Nina, and Gary. Mike was the nicest person around and it was very much visible how much he loved his family and patients.
Dr. Talbert was always so kind to me as a student, therapist and when I spent time at Baptist during my dosimetry training! I got to short visit in with him about a year ago and he was so surprised I remembered his son's name! I did remember it because he talked such great things of his kids and his wife! My thoughts and prayers are with all his family (including his CARTI family). Co -workers like that are special and are truly missed!
Tina, Justin, and Nina,
I'm so sorry for your loss. While there are no words I can say that will take away your sadness, know that I am praying for you all.
Love,
Shannon King

Words cannot convey the sadness I feel, not just for myself, but for the entire Talbert clan. Mike was a gifted physician, a trusted friend, a model citizen and most importantly, a devoted father and husband. I truly thought he would clear this hurdle the same way I have witnessed him overcome other seemingly insurmountable obstacles in his life. His memory is a true blessing and I hope the pain will subside and we can all continue to celebrate his life.

To the Talbert family, my deepest condolences. Your family made a very deep impression on me when my family moved to Jonesboro. Gary you likely won't recall this but at the start of my junior year I was hitting tennis balls on the practice wall at the back of the high school. You and Mike were getting ready to play doubles but one of the guys didn't show. Y'all asked me to play. I will never forget that kindness. Being the new kid on the block, I think school had been in session for only a week, it was a most welcome feeling to be included. Dean Talbert, you were so good to me during my years at ASU. I enjoyed our conversations and your guidance was invaluable to my life and career.
I'll be sending prayers and positive thoughts to the entire family. I'm so proud to have known Mike regardless of not seeing him for many years. His departure is much too early, but his legacy will last for a long, long time. May the peace of the Lord be with you. Mark Hayes
