Eugene Lawrence

of Onia, AR

November 25, 1935 - March 19, 2021

Eugene Huey Lawrence, 85, entered the gates of heaven on Friday, March 19th at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Eugene was born on November 25, 1935 at his home in Onia to John and Myra (Balentine) Lawrence.

Eugene was a man of God and accepted Christ into his life as a child. He was a devoted member of the Bethany Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Eugene loved God and his family dearly. He is fondly remembered by his family as a man-of-all-trades. His grandsons, Brady and Luke, will always cherish the many lessons that they have learned from their Grandpa Eugene.

Eugene was one of twelve siblings and the youngest boy in the family. He spent his summers helping his family on the farm and traveling out of state to pick fruit and cotton. Around 1958, Eugene was introduced to his wife and soulmate, Jean Brewer. They were married on May 9, 1959 and have spent the last 61 years celebrating the many blessings God has granted them. Eugene and Jean went on to have one child, Sherry (Lawrence) Johnson who was and still is, the light of their life. Eugene supported his family through carpentry, welding, poultry and cattle farming, and repairing motors. He also enjoyed driving the school bus for the Timbo School District. Throughout his entire life, he held an unwavering faith in God, which he shared with those who surrounded him. In the later years of his life, Eugene enjoyed listening to gospel music and preaching when he was unable to attend church.

Eugene is preceded in death by his parents John and Myra Lawrence; brothers Olis (Ola), Logan, Parnell (Eudene), and Carlos; sisters, Ora (Aaron) Balentine, and Wanda (Uriel) Fox and four siblings: Leland, Loland, Dewey, and Alma that passed during childhood; father and mother in law Floyd and Monnie Brewer.

He is survived by his wife, Jean (Brewer) Lawrence; daughter Sherry (Keith) Johnson of Onia; grandson Brady (Jennifer) Johnson of Timbo; grandson Luke (Emily) Johnson of Timbo; sister, Nona Mae (Cle) Ramsey of Onia, sisters in law Ethel Mae and Ovie Lawrence as well as three great-grandchildren Parker, Jack, and Oakley Jean Johnson. Eugene is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.
