Aaron Ross

of North Little Rock, AR

April 5, 1928 - March 11, 2021

Aaron Ross, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on Thursday, March 11, at the age of 92.

Aaron was born April 5, 1928, to parents Lorene and Morris Ross in Morehead, Mississippi. He was raised in Mississippi and in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Aaron moved to Helena, Arkansas, at the age of 16 to help his Dad, Morris, at the People's Department Store. There, Aaron met his beloved Janie. "I have found the one whom my soul loves." Song of Solomon 3:4 depicts their over seventy-two years together. During his high school years, Aaron attended Helena High School where he played football.

Aaron is preceded in death by his dear wife, Janie; their daughter, Deborah; son, Andrew; and Aaron's brother, David. Aaron leaves two sons, Bob (Lynn) and Morris (Debi); his grandchildren, John, Lori, Corey and Mitchell (Alisha) Ross. He leaves his great-grandchildren, Alex, Leo, Connor and Roman Ross.

Aaron and Janie lived in California and Florida before moving back to Helena where Aaron worked as a Metropolitan Life Insurance agent. In 1971, the couple chose to move to North Little Rock to realize their dream of building a restaurant. They planned, built and launched the successful Sir Loin's Inn restaurant in North Little Rock. As owners of Sir Loin's Inn, Aaron and Jane employed, mentored and trained many young men and women of the community.
Believing in community, Aaron and Jane helped raised money and supported Arkansas Children's Hospital and St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis.

Aaron was a man of determination and motivation. He had vision, courage and a strong work ethic and was committed to excellence. His interests included his family, friends and his Sir Loin's Inn family.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." II Corinthians 5:17

The family is grateful to all who helped Aaron. This includes the staff of:

Fox Ridge Assisted Living in North Little Rock
The Lakes at Maumelle Health and Rehabilitation
Baptist Health Hospital
Hospice Home Care in Little Rock

Memorial gifts may be made to:

Or to a charity of your choice.

There will be an outdoor Ceremony of Life on Tuesday, March 16, at 11:00 A.M. at Riverwood Memorial Park in Maumelle. All are welcome and due to COVID restrictions, all attendees are required to provide and wear their own masks.

I moved to North Little Rock in early 1976. Our law office was next door for the next five years. We ate at Sir Loin’s at least four nights each month during that period. Aaron and Janie greeted us each time. ‘Family’ was not only a goal at their restaurant, it permeated the atmosphere. Great food, great staff, and the finest salad bar ever! May God Bless Aaron and wing him home!

Dear Ross family,

Very sorry to learn about the recent passing of Mr. Ross ....
he was such a nice and special man in our community !
Sir Loin's Inn was my very favorite restaurant of all times, such fond memories dining there many times over the years. I remember when they first opened back in 1971, local folks were so impressed with the fine food/bar, and the special atmosphere that was so unique at the time. My late younger brother Mike worked there as a teenage high school kid in the early 70's and loved it, and often spoke about how much he liked Mr. Ross because he treated everyone with kindness and respect...even when they made mistakes. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ross extended family at this difficult time.

To Morris and family: It was an honor and pleasure to know your father. He set a great example of a father to all of us. Keep his memories in your hearts and here is what I want to share with you today.
A Blessing for the Sorrowful
May the Lord bless your sorrow and wash your eyes with tears until you can see clearly that invisible land where tears shall come no more. Amen

It was my pleasure to work at Sirloins Inn with Mr Ross and the entire working family. He taught me how to give the best customer service and gave me a chance to go to School during this time. He was and always will be a mentor to me and all who worked with him. He considered us all family. RIP sir. And God got another Angel ✝️

Almost all of the kids in our family worked at Sir Loin Inn at some point in our lives. Mr and Mrs Ross would have dinner for us before work. They would dock our pay 50 cents if we had dinner. It was served family style and we would talk about school, our friends, the Razorbacks... All the things any family sits around discussing. My brother Tom said he spoiled us for future bosses. He built an environment where I looked forward to work. He demanded excellence and punctuality in our work but he cared about each of us as individuals. He taught lessons in everything he did. By having us pay 50 cents for dinner, he showed his compassion with the nominal charge, but gave us dignity in paying our way. He celebrated our successes and commiserated with our failings. He was a great man in such a quiet way. I want to publicly thank him for the positive influence he had on my life. RIP

My Dad told got me my first job at Sir Loin’s Inn. Just out out high school and deciding what was next, I remember walking down that long dark brick hall before it was even finished and meeting the kindest and most wonderful boss I would ever have in my life! The incredible lessons Mr. Ross taught all of us about customer service, quality of food, presentation, service with a smile and always doing our very best is legendary! If all of us that had the opportunity and blessing to work for Aaron and Janie would put our memories of those years in a book it would most definitely be a best seller!!! Thank you will never cover how you shaped my life Mr Ross❤️
Rest In Peace with your beloved Janie ❤️🙏😇

Mr. and Mrs Ross gave me my first job. We who worked there were family. Mr Ross taught us teamwork , courtesy, and “ service with a smile”. Everyone who worked there has a special place in our heart for this legendary restaurant. Mr Ross was a self made man and man of his word. He loved his family most of all. Many folks who worked there are still close friends and have a bond that will never be broken. Mr Ross thanks for your love and the example you were to us all.

Mr. Ross shined a light on potential. His warmth and spirit are unparalleled. I will be forever grateful for the life lessons and lifelong friendships I gained from 6 years working at Sir Loins Inn. His generosity buffeted me through college and his encouragement drove me to do my best. Everyone wanted to please him and he showed his appreciation to all in his orbit.
