of Little Rock, AR
September 5, 1962 - February 20, 2021
Joseph (Joe, Joey) Guy Hogan, Jr. of Little Rock, AR passed away on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at the age of 58. A beloved husband, father, uncle, friend, mentor, and role model, Joe played a special role for the many people he loved in his lifetime. His love for others was an extension of his faith as he lived out the two greatest commandments: "Love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength . . . and love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 22:37-39).
The cornerstone in his personal and professional life was the relationships he had with others. Rooted in his love for Jesus, his connections developed quickly and deeply because he listened well and was so personable, energetic, kind, caring, and (especially) hilarious. Through his life he demonstrated that he was honest, consistent, optimistic, joyful, curious, adventurous, outgoing, and radiant.
Joe worked hard, played hard, and gave one hundred and ten percent to everything he did, including being the general manager at Southern Star Materials for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed helping others, watching them succeed, and putting a smile on someone's face. He loved to be outdoors and enjoy God's creation, especially while riding his bicycle, hiking, and bird watching. When he was not working or outdoors, you could usually find him having good conversations, telling a story, enjoying a good meal, watching a race, or jamming/drumming to his music. The simplest things brought him the most joy which he shared to those around him with a hug, a shoulder squeeze and always a laugh.
To his children, Joe was an amazing teacher but also became a close friend and confidant. On phone calls and around the dinner table he would encourage them, offer words of faith and wisdom, talk about the Hogs' performance, catch up on the latest TV series, share food adventures, and everything in between. In the past few years, Joe was able to resume the active lifestyle that he was so passionate about. After his hip surgery, he put everyone on notice that he was back and ready to rock. On hikes he would lead the way with everyone running to catch up. On a bicycle, you would think you were evenly matched until Joe showed his true strength and zoomed ahead. It is common for children to think their dad is Superman; his children are blessed that they did not grow out of that.
Joe's love for the Lord always came first, and his love for his family was a close second. His spirit will live on in the memories of his wife of 37 years, Kathy Jo Hogan; son, Joseph Guy Hogan, III; daughter, Rebekah Jo Hogan Whitaker (Daniel); and sister, Deborah Jean Hogan McCrady (Joe). He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Guy Hogan, Sr. and Doris Helen Hill Hogan; sister, Judith Diane Hogan; and brother, Larry Joe Hogan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our House charity, PO Box 34155, Little Rock, AR 72203 or to the Little Rock Compassion Center, 3618 W Roosevelt Rd, Little Rock, AR 72204.
Due to the current COVID-19 regulations, a private ceremony will be held on Saturday March 6th, 2021.

When I think of Joe he always brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. Our interactions were few and would likely be considered pretty "ordinary", but, because of Joe's big heart and ready smile, they were very memorable to me. I am blessed to have known him.
Thank you, Joe, for all of the great memories.
My heart is broken. You are forever JOEY to me. We Have so many early childhood memories together: Playing together at church running around the parking lot, going over to each others houses after church eating pimento cheese sandwiches watching Bonanza from TV trays., Making a trip out west to see your family in California and you had a glorious swimming pool! Riding carpool together going to GACS and your love of all things Elton John. I never hear a note from EJ without thinking of you to this day- Your life on this earth honored your parents, Kathy, your children and all those who knew you dear Joey. My heart just aches for you. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you all but I think about you more than you could know. Joe was a great friend to us back when the boys were growing up together. Dustin loved to hang out at your house because he felt so comfortable and it was always a fun place to be. I’m thankful I knew Joe. I pray for you all to feel the peace that passes understanding as you grieve this tremendous loss. Much love and hugs!

Joe, I haven’t seen you but once since college. We spent some formative early years together. I’m glad I knew you. You were always genuine. Always kind. Always made me belly laugh. You found the lighter side of things we felt at the time were ultra critical and helped us see they were not. The thought of the void you leave with your family and loved ones makes me sad. The world will be a less happy place, but I know we will see you and laugh again. God bless you Kathy and family. May God’s peace be upon you.
Thinking of your whole family during this time with heartfelt prayers. â¤ï¸

While I only met Joe a few times he always made me fell like I had known him for ever. He will be sorely missed. It's a blessing knowing he is with GOD.
I enjoyed working with Joe. He was a very nice gentleman. My condolences to the family.
Great gentleman,
Always a smile on his face. Love the family friends for years.
A great loss of A great man.
What a true friend Joe was! We miss him so.
Sincerest sympathy to Kathy, Joseph, Rebekah and extended family.
Kathy, Joseph, & Rebekah: Our prayers are with you during this difficult time. Upon hearing the news the first two words I thought of were "caring" and "compassionate". I couldn't then think of a specific incident, in particular, that caused that reaction. My ultimate conclusion was that any time I've interacted with Joe I could tell that he had a tender heart and cared for others. I think that's about the best statement that could be made of anyone!........and he loved dogs!
Joe will truly be missed! My deepest sympathy to the family.
