January 14, 1937 - February 11, 2021

Charlene Loretta Velker entered the world on January 14,1937 in St. Louis, Missouri. She passed away peacefully at home on February 11, 2021 in Batesville, Arkansas.

She married Stanley J. Dombroski in 1956, and had five children: Patti, Mike, Tim, Steve and David. After the kids started school, Charlene began her studies at Arkansas College. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1977, and later returned to earn a Bachelor of Science in Social Work in 1987.

Charlene was a decorated professional whose resume was filled with impressive accolades. She spent her career as a Social Worker with the Department of Human services and Juvenile Court System. She was the recipient of multiple service awards throughout the years, including a Finalist for Arkansas Outstanding State Employee of the year.

Competitive in nature, she was an avid bowler, golfer and enjoyed a witty comeback. In her retirement, she became a local celebrity at the Hollywood Casino in Tunica, Mississippi.

Though her body failed and her spirit left this world, she leaves a legacy that will continue through her children and their families.

Survivors include, husband of 64 years, Stan; children, Patti Truly (Mike) of Wichita, Kansas, Mike Dombroski (Rhonda) of Decatur, Alabama, Tim Dombroski (Myra) of Batesville, Arkansas, Steve Dombroski (Norma) of San Antonio, Texas, and David Dombroski (Tish) of Conway, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Scott, Bryan, Lori, River, Brittany, TJ, and Devin; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

I was so sad to hear of Charlene’s passing. She was such a good friend to me and my first professional mentor when we worked at DCFS together nearly 30 years ago. Working with her inspired me to go back to school to get my Masters in social work. She was kind, funny, told you like it was and always knew how to have a good time. She was an amazing friend and teacher. She lived an amazing life that touched so many. I will continue to hold her in my heart and memories for the rest of my life. Prayers for the family.

I am so sorry about the loss of this wonderful lady! I loved her! She was such a character and we had so much fun. We went to the Juvenile Detention center every week or so and did STD classes to the kids. She truly loved and cares about those kids. I will always remember her ! My prayers are with her loved ones.

This breaks my heart. I shared an office with Charlene for years while working for DCFS. She became one of my closest and dearest friends. My respect and admiration for her was only seconded by my love for her. We shared so many great times and more laughs than could ever be counted. My heart and prayers go out to her family. I love you Char, you will be forever missed. You made the world a much better place. 💔

Working with Charlene at Human Services 30 years ago she was my go to work buddy she was a quiet kind of funny, clever, smart, witty as you say and I’ll never forget her she was timeless a true friend. I’ll always remember riding with her and that bowling ball rolling around in the trunk...my thoughts are with you all Dombroski family.

Charlene was a one of a kind and I thought the world of her. We had such fun when you treated us to the six course meal at the Hollywood on our Anniversary. She was such fun and never failed to ask how my voice was doing. I will miss you but remember you always. God bless the family. glenda

Going to miss our great conversations on your porch favorite neighbor. Not sure we solved many problems, but Lexi got her head rubbed and she will always turn up your driveway. Rest in Peace, you have earned that and so much more.
Love and Peace to your family, and as you always said, "after while crocodile"....
