of Harrison, AR
January 25, 1929 - January 22, 2021
Jim Hathcoat, age 91, of Harrison, passed away Friday, January 22, 2021. He was born January 25, 1929, in Harrison, the son of Martin Leslie and Birtie Lee (Roberts) Hathcoat. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 65 years, Marianne Pyeatte Hathcoat; his brother, Les Hathcoat; and his sister, Shirley Lou Hathcoat.
Except for a few years spent in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Jim was a lifelong resident of Harrison. He loved everyone and he was overly fair and generous to all who knew him and dealt with him. Jim worked his whole life on his farm. He loved all of his many animals, but his favorite was his horses. He showed many of his horses at horse shows and raced some in Oklahoma.
Survivors include his sisters, Wanda Carner and Mary Ann Stephen; his sister-in-law, Peggy Hathcoat; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends.
Visitation was Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at Roller-Christeson Funeral Home.
Graveside service was Friday, January 29, 2021, at Brittain Cemetery.
Roller-Christeson Funeral Home is complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines for COVID-19 and limiting indoor funeral and visitation attendance. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering.
With deepest sympathy. A cousin who I have wondered if he and Maryann were still living. Rest In Peace.
I just found out. So heart hurt. They were second parents to me. I rode so many of his horses. james, Marianne, I love you both. Thank you for being such great friends and taking care of me. You are greatly missed.
James and Marianne opened their house for dominoes and cards on the weekend. Jim would go with us to the one good swimming hole on Huzzah Creek and swim with us and play our games. Hauling hay on the hillsides on his farm with Felton Lafoon's hay crew, "Big Hat" Harding, Carl Johnson, Roy Hoobler, John Parker, and Daddy was always a challenge. James was always good natured,"laid back" before the hippies coined that term. Quiet MaryAnne worked at the bank and made lemonade for us. They put me up for a few nights when I stopped by on my way to join the Navy.
All the Parker kids loved to visit Jim and Marianne (and all the other Hathcoats as well) to ride horses and have treats. We always looked forward to Sunday nights when we were invited to watch the Wonderful World of Disney at their house, as we didn't have a TV.
Very sweet folks who were missed dearly when we moved to WA.
Condolences to all the Hathcoat family.
Jim Hathcoat was a good man, a generous, kind neighbor.
When we lived down the road from them, we kids loved going up to visit him & Marianne. He would show us his horses and Marianne always had cookies, best of all worlds for us kids.
Jim & Marianne were dear neighbors, we missed them so much when we moved away.
Our heartfelt condolences and best wishes to Peggy, his sisters and to all his family.

Jim was great man! I cut his hair for years, Maryanns also. Really special people. He would always tip me and tell me to buy myself a ice cream! A gentleman! So sorry for your loss.
