Susie Thompson

of Batesville, AR

January 1, 1958 - December 27, 2020

Susie Thompson, 62, of Batesville passed away December 27, 2020.

She was born January 1, 1958 in Flint, Michigan to Roy Carey Ruff and Anna Jean (Howell) Ruff Andrews.

Susie was married to Dennis Thompson on September 17th, 1976 in Alton, Missouri. To this union two sons Chad and Clay were born. Dennis, Chad and Clay were her life. Susie enjoyed church and singing. She loved flowers, the outdoors and water; she enjoyed scuba diving for many years.

Susie obtained her RN Degree in 1987 from Missouri State West Plains. Susie loved nursing as it gave her an opportunity to take care of those in need. She spent 12 years in Hospice mainly caring for cancer patients. She worked in other areas as well, finishing her career working for the Department of Labor as a RN Case Manager for the last 4 years before retiring in 2014. Nursing was more than a job for Susie if was her passion.

Susie was a Christian who truly loved and served God. She loved her family with unconditional love. She was a very caring, loving and encouraging person who always put others needs above her own. She supported several ministries including John 3:16, John 3:17 and New Hope Refuge. She had a heart for those who were hurting.

Survivors include her loving husband, Dennis Edward Thompson; two sons, Chad and Clay Thompson of Batesville; three brothers, Mike Ruff (Arlene) of Raymore, Missouri, Glen Andrews (Jo-Rose) of Lee Summit, Missouri, and Keith Andrews of Kansas City; two sisters, Connie Vance (Allan) of Charleston, South Carolina and Jackie Wade (Rick) of Alton, Missouri; three special little girls, Aubrey, Allie, and Susanna Huskey; and many nieces, nephews and a very special group of cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Steve Ruff, and her maternal grandparents, Posie and Mary Howell.

Susie battled cancer for over 10 years. We know she won, for winning the battle with cancer is not determined by if one dies with it but rather by how one lives with it. Susie was a champion. She never gave up, she continued to help others, she encouraged when she was hurting, and she loved her family with a passion. Susie won the battle and more importantly she fought the good fight, she finished her course, she kept the faith. And we know she heard these words, ''Well done my good and faithful daughter welcome home.''

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Believers Community Church in Batesville with Jason Roberts and Gary Dotson officiating under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home.

Visitations will be held one hour prior to the service.

We are complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines and limiting indoor funeral attendance, limitations will be posted at the church. Visitation attendance will be limited to 50 people at one time. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering and social distancing will be observed.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her honor to John 3:16 Ministries, 75 Holmes Road, Charlotte, AR 72522 or New Hope Refuge, 10 Bell Grove Road, Batesville, AR 72501.

We have cherished our time with Dennis and Susie as part of our Church and small group in Houston. It was always a delight to hang out with them and Susie always had an encouraging word to share with each of us, a positive outlook, and her faith in the midst of suffering was an inspiration to all of us. She knew how to brighten the room and was always entertaining with her humor :) Her presence and her smile will be missed dearly. We grieve her loss but we also rejoice in knowing that she is praising Jesus now face to face and free of her pain. We’ll continue to pray for Dennis, Chad, Clay, and the rest of the family.

Dear Susie. We @theWell are forever grateful that you were a part of our life. We are thankful to be able to serve as your adopted home church family whenever you and Dennis were down here with us. I will always remember the story you told of our “chance” encounter when you heard praise & worship music coming from our small building. Even though our time together was short and limited, we wish that we could have told you what a great impact you made to all of us. We will miss your emanating presence of God’s peace and joy. We thank you for your smiles and warmth. We love you and celebrate your arrival with God our Father. Dear Dennis. We love you. May God hold you and your children close to Him. God will comfort you and carry you through this difficult time. You will always have another home church down here with us.

Because He Lives, we can face tomorrow!

It was a pleasure to meet and get to know you and Dennis through TheWell these last few years. Although our time spent with one another was short, it was a blessing to witness your strong faith in God as you fought the good fight. As much as it pains us, we know you are resting in peace with our Lord and savior, free of pain and suffering. To Dennis and the rest of the family, we will be keeping you all in our prayers.

Thinking of Susie especially on her special day. I can only imagine her now, eternally celebrating and singing praises on the streets of heaven! Susie is truly one of kind as I told Dennis. She is an epitome of a Proverbs 31 Kingdom Woman. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
..A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised! Though we miss her presence we have joy and peace knowing that she is finally home with the Lord, with no more pain and suffering. We love you, Susie!!!

Susie was my special and forever sister. Her obituary says it best that she did win the fight against cancer in how she lived it. She and Dennis had so many adventures that most of us never dream of (certainly not para-sailing!). They both had such amazing courage through this and I will always be grateful to Dennis for taking such good care of her. She will be missed for sure.

Her faith in God and kindness to others was amazing. She fought hard, but has won the race. Dance those streets of gold, sister! Dennis and family, my prayers are with you daily.

Oh Dennis, God called home another faithful saint. He will embrace you and your family with His love as you all grieve. I miss Susie so deeply in my heart because she was the gentlest soul to us. I remember how happy Susie was when she rang the bell last month as she finished her treatments. She feared no evil for God was with her. Susie lived for the Lord and died for the Lord and she is now in eternal life without pain. Let us enjoy the memories of time we had with Susie until we see her again in Heaven ❤️

Growing up Susie's family and mine lived two miles apart. We attended elementary school and high school together. Dennis and I were the best of friends. We drifted apart as life took us in different directions but reconnected through Facebook several years ago. Susie was her same sweet, sunny self, always positive. We often saw things differently and when we disagreed Susie was never disagreeable. She always remained my friend even in the times I didn't deserve it. I know of no better measure of friendship than that. Dennis, Chad, Clay, I have no words to ease the pain and loss you now feel. It is my hope that soon the memories of better times will replace your deep sorrow.

Dennis, We were saddened to hear that Susie had passed away. She was one of the nicest people that I ever had the honor of knowing. We remember the compassion she had when caring for my dad many years ago during his last days and how much fun she was to be around in high school. We are praying for God to comfort you in this hard time.

Susie was one of the strongest woman I've known. The way she put herself second and everyone else first shows how she cared for people. She carried more joy in her baby finger then I have ever seen. Her smile and voice will be terribly missed, but she is smiling down and watching over each of us. Such a beautiful lady inside and out.
