September 22, 1924 - December 21, 2020
Juanita Simmons Clements passed away on Monday, December 21, 2020, at the age of 96. She was born September 22, 1924, in Sherman, Mississippi, one of seven children, to Ida and Charles Simmons. On December 23, 1943, she married Laurence H. Clements and moved to his farm at Barton, Arkansas.
After moving to Arkansas, she agreed to help her brother and took a temporary job as a teller at what became Merchants and Farmers Bank. Forty years later, she retired as a First Vice President. Anyone with an account problem knew to call "Miss Juanita." After her retirement, she enjoyed sharing coffee and conversation with friends. Her door was always open and a fresh pot was always brewing for anyone who came to visit.
Juanita was a faithful member of Barton Baptist Church and volunteered in various roles at the church for well over 40 years. She enjoyed playing bridge, dominos, and bingo and socializing, and she deeply loved her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laurence H. Clements; and all her brothers and sisters.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kay C. Daugherty of Memphis, TN; three grandchildren, John M. Daugherty, Jr. (Askua) of Fukui, Japan; Kathleen C. Daugherty and Jay M. Daugherty, of Memphis; 4 great grandchildren, Yuiki, Nemu, Aren, and Jarod, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins who lovingly called her Aunt Nita.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, December 29th at 2:00 pm at Sunset Memorial Park - 5671-5683 US 49, West Helena, AR 72390.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to your local food bank or charity of your choice to continue Juanita's spirit of generosity.
Services will be directed by Roller-Citizens Funeral Home, West Helena, (870) 572-2571. Relatives and friends may sign the online guestbook at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/westhelena.

So sorry to hear of Juanita's passing. I remember visiting her at her house when I was a child and teenager. My mother was Theda Dean Ermer Oxner.
Please accept condolences from the family of Joel Petty, another resident where Miss Juanita lived. Prior to Covid, we were blessed to have interactions with Miss Juanita when visiting our father (grandfather and great-grandfather). Miss Juanita was always so warm and inviting when engaging with all those she encountered. We will cherish our interactions with her and truly miss her smiling face and kind words.
In peace,
Daphne Fox for the family of Joel Petty
