Bessie Irene Sanders

of Benton, AR

April 29, 1927 - December 20, 2020

Bessie Irene Sanders, 93, of Benton, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Sunday, December 20, 2020. She was born April 29, 1927 in Petersburg, Tennessee to Oliver Clarence and Minnie Louise Davis Pigg.

Our mother was a woman like no other. She gave us life, sewed our clothes, stood up for us, did without for us, worked hard for us, loved us unconditionally, but most importantly she was always there for us.

She was a member of Northside Church of Christ in Benton

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fletcher Earl Sanders; brothers, Robert Davis Pigg, and Samuel Lee Pigg.
She was an RN and devoted her career to caring for others, she retired from St. Vincent.

Bessie is survived by her sons, Richard Sanders, and his wife Dolores of Little Rock; Jim Sanders and his wife, Judy, of Conroe, Texas; her daughters, Peggy Pate and her husband, Ervin, of Bryant, and Janice Taylor and her husband, Tom, of Benton; eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and many other extended family members and friends. She will be missed but her memory will be cherished and her legacy will continue on through those who loved and cared for her.

A Graveside Service will be Thursday, December 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander.

The family would like to thank the staff at Pleasant Hill Home Care and Saline Hospice for the loving care that was given to our mother.

I just learned of Bess's death. I will always cherish her kindness, sense of humor, and hospitality shown to me through the years Fletcher and I researched the McAdams clan together.

I had the pleasure of living next door to Ms. Bess. The highlight of my day once I moved my office home was to get her mail each day and go over for a visit. She was full of wit and laughter. Watching her birds out the back door was such pleasure for her. I loved the stories she would tell about her life and one of the best was because she was so tall, people asked all the time “How tall are you” And she’d say so proudly 5’ 12”!! And we’d laugh and laugh. When i had to move - I cried with a broken heart because she was the most beautiful SONshine of my day.

Meemaw was such an amazing woman with such a kind and accepting heart! Peepaw and her had the storybook love that could be felt when you were around them. She made the best banana nut bread, "green stuff", and cheesy potato casserole with cornflakes on top! I miss her dearly but will hold her in my heart forever. I'm so sorry for your loss, but she is no doubt back in the arms of Peepaw in heaven.
