I was just thinking about Mrs. Rather the other day. She was such a sweet, caring lady.I worked at Ouachita Hospital and as soon as I got through eating lunch every day I had to go to the shop before heading back to work to see what she had gotten in new that I just had to have and if I didn’t have enough money on me at the time she’d say just give me what you have and you can pay the rest out. She had some good stuff and I could rack up a tab! I remember Mr. Rather helping her carry in boxes. He was a sweet person too, and now they’re together again! Prayers for the family! My Deepest Sympathy, Debbie Rachila

I got to know Mrs Rather when I started at OMH. My son has disability with walking and he didn’t have an electric wheelchair at this time. David had a big foot truck that he would to go to the therapy dept at OMH. He would come through the front door and stop and see the switchboard operators then to the gift box and see Mrs Rather. She always had a candy bar for him. Then down the hall blowing his horn to everyone Once he finished the therapy back down the hall blowing his horn to the business office ladies. Then back to the gift box to see Mrs Rather and another cant bar Before leaving he would see the switchboard operators. Jump now to 1985 and David has a electric wheelchair and he wanted to go see Mrs Rather. Now we are at the new hospital National Park Medical Center and to the gift box he went to see Mrs Rather and get his candy bar. This time he got to show how good he could drive through the halls. She always asked about about David and talked about his battery powered truck when he was driving through OMH and now he gets through on his new chair watching him smile all the way down the halls of NPMC. All of who got to know her will miss her.

Mrs. Rather was a kind and gentle lady but so strong too. She was my ride to choir practice at Westminster when I was a teenager. I enjoyed so much that time with her. She wrote me a letter when she was living in Tennessee and I keep that letter among my treasures. She was always and will always be kept in my heart. She was a special person.
