He was a papermaker in Springhill, Louisiana where he and Ellen raised their family, and in 1978, they moved to McGehee, Arkansas where he worked at Potlatch Corporation until his retirement in June of 2000. After retirement, they made their home in Little Rock. He loved fishing and spent many hours in pursuit of his passion. He was PawPaw to six grandchildren, Sherry and Sean Johnson, Casey and Drew Buford, and Shelby and Rose Johnson; as well as five great-grandchildren, Gage and Avery Buford, Jordana Buford, and Kaitlyn and Justin Potts.

He was a member of the South City Church of Little Rock and the Legacy Life group there. A Memorial Service is planned there, with CDC guidelines observed, in the Courtyard for Saturday, November 21, 2020 at 3 p.m. and will be presided over by Pastor Drew Cline. He will be memorialized from home by long-time friends and Pastor Brother Jerry Kidd and Sue of South City Church, and the service will be streamed on South City Church Little Rock Facebook page.

I grew up in church with Mr. Bobby, Mrs. Ellen, and the kids. They all were a big part of my "upbringing." I always admired Mr. Bobby. He was good to notice and encourage me as a kid. I cried when he and the family moved away. Praise the Lord, our destination in Christ will have no more separations!
