Fred E. Austin, age 81, of Peel, Arkansas passed away Thursday November 5, 2020 at his home.
Fred was born November 7, 1938 in Peel, Arkansas to the late Coy and Mildred Velma (Yocham) Austin. He married Carolyn A Burr November 26, 1958. A lifelong resident of the area, Fred worked for Arkansas Highway Transportation Department from March 1972 until his retirement April 1997 where he had worked many years on the Peel Ferry. He served as a very dedicated president and overseer of the Peel Cemetery for many years, as well as serving on the Yellville-Summit school board. Fred enjoyed coon hunting and even won trophies and had registered blue tick and walker hounds that won awards. He was also an avid deer hunter which he did with family and friends. He had many friends which he spent time with, either drinking coffee, sitting on the porch, or both. He liked doing carpentry work, especially building birdhouses, and he enjoyed spending time with young people and teaching them about the things he knew.
Mr. Austin is survived by his wife, Carolyn Burr Austin of the home; two sons: Donald J. Austin, and Douglas R. (Rene') Austin all of Peel, Arkansas; his brothers: Harold Dwayne (Carlene) Austin of Billings, Missouri; Francis Lewis (Debbie) Austin of Elkland, Missouri; Lee Roy (Emmy) Austin of Republic, Missouri; Brothers-in-law: Ray and Pattie Burr of Walnut Grove, Missouri (who was like a son to him); David Burr of Rogersville, Missouri; his sisters: Patricia ''Pat'' Mae Austin Cagle of Peel, Arkansas; Pamela Diane (Leon) Austin Due of Flippin, Arkansas; his sisters-in-law Mary Burr, Alice (Ted) Beckley all of Rogersville, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his infant brother Carl Ray Austin, and his sister Lila June Cole.
Visitation will be 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Saturday November 7, 2020 at the Peel Cemetery Pavilion in Peel, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be 12:00 pm Saturday November 7, 2020 at the Peel Cemetery Pavilion in Peel, Arkansas with Bro. Carroll Johnson officiating.
Pallbearers will be Warren Burr, Michael Enos, Coy Flippin, Ray Flippin, Greg Ashton and Randy Stark.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Perry, Bud Crabtree, Scott Montreuil, Neil Wood, Mark Grozis, and Keith Evans.
