December 24, 1940 - October 25, 2020

Brenda Metcalf Hipp, age 79 of Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2020. She was born on December 24, 1940 to her late parents, Bergie Metcalf and Hope Whitman Metcalf in Chismville, Arkansas.

Brenda was a graduate of Booneville High School and Arkansas Tech University. She and her sister Peggy were cheerleaders at Tech and members of numerous clubs and organizations. She was crowned Miss Booneville and was a top 10 finalist in The Miss Arkansas Pageant. Later in life, Brenda received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Literacy from the University of Central Arkansas.

Prior to moving to Little Rock, Brenda lived in Batesville for many years, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. After moving to Little Rock, she became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir she loved so much.

Brenda was a devoted educator and taught at several Elementary Schools in the Batesville area and Little Rock, retiring from Fulbright Elementary in Little Rock. She continued to tutor children in reading after retiring. She took great pride in teaching children that struggled with reading. She was certified in reading recovery and once joked that she could teach a rock to read. She was loved by her students, parents and fellow teachers.

Brenda is preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Metcalf Thornton and her brother-in-law, Dr. Ben Hipp. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joe Fraser Hipp; her daughter, Lisa Hipp Lambert of Batesville, AR and two granddaughters, Sydney Elizabeth Lambert of Little Rock, AR and Allyson Marie Lambert of Jonesboro, AR; sister-in-law, Marva Hipp of Batesville, two nieces, Melissa Potter (Scott) of Nashville, TN and Melanie Daugherty (Kenny) of Clarksville, TN and their families.

We are so saddened to learn of our loss of Brenda. She was a dear and remarkable lady. Anne was Brenda's professor in the Reading Recovery Program at UALR. And, YES, with Brenda's knowledge, skill and personality, she COULD teach a rock to read!!! to her family, your faith, family and friends will serve as your sources of peace, strength and comfort. With our love and prayers! Charles and Anne

Lisa, I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. I didn’t know her, but met her a couple times at work when she was there to see you. She was so cordial, and said we could be sisters because our hair was the same color! Praying for comfort during this time, it’s hard to lose your Mom.

Joe and Lisa, our prayers and thoughts are with you today as you walk through this hard day. Knowing that Brenda is whole and rejoicing with her Saviour in Heaven certainly comforts us at this time, but it still hurts that she is no longer with us down here. We pray that God will wrap His arms around you and give you His peace today and in days to come as you treasure the memories of your dear wife and mother.

We have so many wonderful memories of spending time with Brenda and Joe: Razorback baseball games, Crystal Bridges, and Sunday school parties. Brenda was a beloved member of our Reading Teacher lunch bunch and we had so many fun times together. She was a devoted friend who was constantly thinking of ways to bless those she loved.
