Brenda Metcalf Hipp, age 79 of Little Rock, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on October 25, 2020. She was born on December 24, 1940 to her late parents, Bergie Metcalf and Hope Whitman Metcalf in Chismville, Arkansas.
Brenda was a graduate of Booneville High School and Arkansas Tech University. She and her sister Peggy were cheerleaders at Tech and members of numerous clubs and organizations. She was crowned Miss Booneville and was a top 10 finalist in The Miss Arkansas Pageant. Later in life, Brenda received a Masters Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on Literacy from the University of Central Arkansas.
Prior to moving to Little Rock, Brenda lived in Batesville for many years, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. After moving to Little Rock, she became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir she loved so much.
Brenda was a devoted educator and taught at several Elementary Schools in the Batesville area and Little Rock, retiring from Fulbright Elementary in Little Rock. She continued to tutor children in reading after retiring. She took great pride in teaching children that struggled with reading. She was certified in reading recovery and once joked that she could teach a rock to read. She was loved by her students, parents and fellow teachers.
Brenda is preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Metcalf Thornton and her brother-in-law, Dr. Ben Hipp. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Joe Fraser Hipp; her daughter, Lisa Hipp Lambert of Batesville, AR and two granddaughters, Sydney Elizabeth Lambert of Little Rock, AR and Allyson Marie Lambert of Jonesboro, AR; sister-in-law, Marva Hipp of Batesville, two nieces, Melissa Potter (Scott) of Nashville, TN and Melanie Daugherty (Kenny) of Clarksville, TN and their families.
In lieu of flowers, Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 N. Shackleford Road, Little Rock, AR 72211; Alzheimer's Association of Arkansas,10201 W Markham St Suite 100, Little Rock, AR 72205; or Humane Society of Independence County,5 Environmental Drive, Batesville, AR 72501.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at Roller-Chenal funeral home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Arkansas (501) 224-8300 with Dr. Rex Horne officiating. A visitation will begin at 12:00 just prior to service. A graveside service will be 2:00pm on Friday, October 30, 2020, at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Arkansas.

Lisa, I’m so sorry to hear about your Mom. I didn’t know her, but met her a couple times at work when she was there to see you. She was so cordial, and said we could be sisters because our hair was the same color! Praying for comfort during this time, it’s hard to lose your Mom.

Brenda was a member of our Little Rock School District Reading Teacher Lunch Bunch. She was always such a bright ray of sunshine. Brenda was truly a storyteller and she shared many with our group. I will miss her shining eyes and sweet smile. May she rest in peace.

We have so many wonderful memories of spending time with Brenda and Joe: Razorback baseball games, Crystal Bridges, and Sunday school parties. Brenda was a beloved member of our Reading Teacher lunch bunch and we had so many fun times together. She was a devoted friend who was constantly thinking of ways to bless those she loved. We'll be praying for Joe and Lisa, Sidney, and Allie to know God's comfort and strength.
Joe, I am so sorry for your loss. There are so many things I loved about Brenda but the best one was sharing a room with her at Booker Arts Magnet School . I learned so much about her and the way she interacted with the children. She was one of a kind.
