We considered ourselves lucky to have Dave build our Arkansas home and to get to know him as a builder and neighbor. Dave was easy to like, a thoughtful and caring person, and craftsman. My cousins are master cabinet builders and came all the way form SE Missouri to Oakland to install the cabinets they built for our home. They commented “we have never seen such straight walls in a kitchen, the cabinets required no shims whatsoever and fit perfectly the first time”. I passed their comment on to Dave and he explained. “When the wall studs arrive, I sort through them and select only the most perfect for the kitchen”. Even with an extensive family carpenter history, I have never before heard of such professional care in a builder. God used David to help us when we moved here to Oakland. Debi and family our prayer is that God’s grace be multiplied to you through this time of loss. We will be praying for you.

I was so shocked and saddened to see that David has passed. His mother Gerene and my mother, Dolores Sherwood, were very good friends. No one else may remember a story of David, but I do. During Our year in kindergarten David and I were good friends. My mom babysat David. We lived in Gilbert right across the tracks from the bank and David’s family lived on a farm west of Gilbert. One day Mom was in the phone but David and I wanted to go to the farm and ride the calves. We tried to get Mom’s attention to no avail so we set off on our own. Every time a car came along we jumped in the ditch and lates flat hoping we wouldn’t be seen. We’d only gotten about a half a mile or so and here came Mom to take us home. I never got another chance to ride those cows. Also during that year David was the first boy I ever kissed! I never saw much of him after they moved to North Dakota north of Ames. I saw Gerene, even after our mother died and always enjoyed our visits. I will be remembering you in my prayers for quite some time. This wound may never heal but God is good and will never leave you. My best wishes to you and your family. Mary Martin

Deb and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. It is life altering to loose your soulmate and heart breaking to loose your parent. You have been blessed with many happy memories, may those sustain you and lift you up at this time and in the days-months ahead. May God give you strength to surround one another as you each grieve in your own way, a reflection of the deep and unique love you each shared with David. God bless you all.
