of Memphis, TN
April 26, 1927 - October 7, 2020
Urba J. Reed, 93, passed away October 7, 2020, at her daughter's home in Memphis, TN. She was born in Cave City, AR, the only child of Urban and Floy Carpenter. She grew up in Evening Shade, AR where she had wonderful childhood memories and enjoyed spending time in Cave City with her grandmothers and many cousins. She was valedictorian of her high school class and began attending Arkansas College at age 16. Widowed at 26 she began a career in banking, retiring from Bank of America (formerly First National Bank) as VP and Chief Financial Officer. Vacations for her were excuses to travel and see the world. She married Stan Reed when she was 62 and they had many wonderful years together. She is survived by her daughter, Candace Hutchison Stokes, granddaughters, Sandra Bryant and Suzanne Walker, great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Charlotte Bryant and Caroline and Brandon Walker, stepson Rick Reed and his family, and Step-Daughter Tanya Reed Wright and her family. Services will be private. Memorials may be sent in her memory to First United Methodist Church in Batesville or Lyon College.
My mom and your mom were best friends since school days. What wonderful memories thay had. I know she and mom are once again having a ball together. She will be missed as my mom is so missed. But it can bring us joy to think of them together. Bless you and yours.
Candace, so sorry for your loss. I worked with Urba Jean at First National Bank and went to church with her and Stan at First United Merhodist. She was very dedicated to her work overseeing the Trust Dept. I thought a lot of her and respected her a lot. Thoughts and prayers with you and your family.

Many pleasant memories
I worked with Urba many years ago at First National Bank. Always respected and admired her. So sorry for your loss.
Candace, I’m so sorry to hear of the death of your mother. You probably don’t remember, but you lived next door to my family. In fact, I was telling my sister about you a few days ago. My daddy, Cleo Burge, was an invalid. He was unable to walk, or move his limbs because of rheumatoid arthritis. You came to visit at least once a day. One morning you came to see him, chewing a big wad of bubble gum. Daddy said he sure wished he had some of that gum so you promptly took it out of mouth and pushed it in his before he could close it. It was one of his favorites stories. And of mine.😊 I loved your mother and your grandparents . I wanted to grow up to be just like Urba Jean. Actually, I worked at the bank with her for awhile after high school. I hope life has been good to you. You brought a lot of pleasure to our family.
Love and Blessings! Wilma
