Willie Joe Wood, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. He was a current resident of Harrisburg, Arkansas, but resided the majority of his life in Tyronza, Arkansas, where he was born on March 2, 1942 to Jamie Randolph Wood and Thelma Marie (Smith) Wood. Willie Joe was the third of eight children.
Self employed as a talented diesel mechanic for over 50 years, Willie Joe refused to retire. His strong work ethic was only surpassed by his generous heart. He was a helping hand behind the scenes in many peoples lives. He had the uncanny ability to make each person feel like they were his favorite. Mr. Wood proudly served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Mr. Wood is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, JoAnn Teague Wood.
Willie Joe is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donna; brothers, Earl Glen (Helen), Jamie Junior (Glenda), Thomas Carrol (Susan), Richard Gail (Janet) and Dennis Neal (Brenda); sisters, Janis Marie and LaDonna Paulette (Ronnie); children, Paula Hatcher (Eddie), Melinda Acoach (John), Robbie Drace (Tracey) and Bryan Wood; grandchildren, Allen Hall (Terri), Leslie Hall. Johnathan Drace (Candace), Austin Drace, Joshua Drace, Addie Wood and Samuel Wood; great grandson, Ryder Drace, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and several cousins.
On Friday, October 9, 2020, at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, Mr. Wood will lie in repose from 3:00pm to 5:00pm.
Saturday funeral services will be at First Baptist Church in Lepanto at 302 Kenwood Avenue at 11:00am with Bro. Kyle Rhea officiating. Burial will follow at Tyronza Cemetery.
Visitation is at the church Saturday from 9:00am to 11:00am.
Pallbearers are, Eric McGuire, Michael Blansett, Michael Ferguson, Joe Pace, Paul Gann and Cliff Vanhoozer.
We are complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines and limiting indoor funeral and visitation attendance while observing social distancing guidelines. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering.
Willie Joe was a man I always called a friend.
Many years and time would go by without us talking or seeing each other but when we did, it was right back where we left off.
He will be missed by me and my family.
