Gary Dewayne Caudle

of Benton, AR

October 1, 1948 - October 7, 2020

Gary Dewayne Caudle, 72, of Benton, unexpectedly passed into the loving arms of his Savior on Wednesday, October 7, 2020. He was born on October 1, 1948 in Little Rock to Robert Lee and Anna Louise Anderson Caudle.

Gary was a selfless man who was loved by many. He earned a bachelor's degree from Harding University and went on to further his education by receiving his Master of Science in Applied Mathematics from The University of Arkansas. He was an active and faithful member of Northside Church of Christ, where he previously served as a Shepherd, and also at Barrow Road Church of Christ when he attended there. Gary enjoyed his time outdoors, especially camping and gardening. All who knew him would say he was an amazing example of care and compassion as a husband, father, and Pawpo. He will be missed but his memory will be cherished and his legacy will continue on through those who loved and cared for him.

''Remembering you is easy, I do it every day; missing you is the heartache that never goes away.''

He was preceded in death by his father, and an infant brother, Jerry Caudle.

Gary is survived by his sweetheart of 52 years, Maude E. Caudle; his daughters, Rebecca Sipes, Melissa Baxley and her husband, Russ, and Ashley Clancy and her husband, Shane; his mother, Louise Caudle; his best friends and greatest admirers who called him ''Pawpo,'' his grandchildren, Laney Sipes, Jaggar Baxley, Marlee Baxley, Harley Clancy, Turner Clancy, Cash Clancy, and Sawyer Clancy, and many other extended family members and friends.

The family expresses a ''thank you'' to the staff of CHI St. Vincent Heart Clinic for taking care of their Pawpo during his final moments.

The family requests memorials be made in Gary's name to Corin Read Christian Camp or Gospel Chariot Missions, 917 North East Street, Benton, AR 72015.

A Memorial Service will be Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Roller-Alcoa Funeral Home, 6700 Alcoa Road, Benton.

We are complying with the Arkansas Department of Health guidelines and limiting indoor funeral and visitation attendance to 100 people at one time. All attendees must provide and wear their own masks before entering.

Please sign the online guestbook and view the recording of the Memorial Service, which will be available Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/bryant

Uncle Gary was a great example of what the love of Christ looks like. If you knew him, you were loved by him. One thing that has always stood out to me was his contagious smile. He was always smiling. He was nothing less than a joy to be around. Many prayers for Granny Caudle, Aunt Maude, Becca, Melissa, Ashley, and family. We love you very much!

Dear Brenda Gonzales and family: My thoughts are with you and your family members during this time of loss. Although I did not know Gary personally, I can tell by reading others’ words and memories of him; and, viewing his sweet picture that he was a dear soul to so many.

Brenda - I will never forget how caring and thoughtful you were when my brother Ronnie passed away July 28, 2019 at the age of 68. When I returned to work you came to my office with a beautifully framed picture of my brother’s obituary, you placed your hand on my shoulder, and quietly handed it to me. I looked up at you and held the picture to my heart with tears in my eyes. I still remember this day like it was yesterday and thinking this was the most thoughtful gift that anyone could have ever given me. Thank you for being such a wonderful, kind person. I miss seeing and talking with you 5 days a week as I did before my retirement. But you are never far from my thoughts. I love you girl!

May you and your family find peace .....

Sincerely, Sandy Taylor

We were so shocked and then so heartbroken upon hearing this news. Maude and family, please know we are praying for you. I remember all the years knowing you guys - through all the Barrow Road days. Maude, you guys are such a wonderful Christian family and we both think the world of you. Gary was so kind and soft-spoken, he had a gentle nature and a grin that always put you at ease. I remember being so proud and pleased when he and Jerry Spears were installed as elders at Barrow Road. He was such a wonderful example of a true Christ follower. I am so glad we happened to run into you guys a few months ago, out eating. As we visited briefly that evening, it was like we hadn't even been apart all these years. We treasure that moment. Praying for peace and comfort for each of you.

Our hearts broke when we heard about Gary’s passing. We loved him and looked up to him in many ways. What a tremendous Christian man he was. A wonderful husband, father, and Pawpo. He, with sweet Maude, have created the kind of close knit family we strive to have when our own three girls grow and spread their wings.

He was always so kind. Offering a smile, a joke, or a hug depending on what life was throwing at us. He just radiated love to those around him. He was such a light in our Northside family. A person you were always glad to see and chat with.

His deep love for his family was evident in all he did. You could see the joy and pride he had when talking about his children and especially those precious grandchildren. Praying fervently for all of you that have lost such a pillar for your family. We will miss him very much along with you.

All Our Love,

Shock and grief are the two words that come to mind in learning about Gary’s passing. Gary and I worked together for many years through some fun times and some challenging situations, but Gary was always the calm voice of reason that helped steer the ship. I counted Gary much more than a work associate, he was my friend.

As we both retired, we kept in touch by the annual birthday greetings in October. I did see Gary several months ago, we talked about keeping up with each other on Facebook and trying to get a golf game together (as we once did quite often).

Gary was smart, professional, had a solid sense of humor and he will be missed by all that associated with him.

I will not be able to attend the memorial service, but I will be there in spirit.

The word "Good" does not even begin to describe who Gary was as a person, yet it is also appropriate since it portrays his morality, integrity, and decency with the unpretentious humility and grace with which he always carried himself. He was a true friend and shepherd to so many, myself included.

My thoughts and prayers are with Gary's family and loved ones. Please remember that he is now where all of us aspire to be, both in the afterlife and in terms of the legacy he leaves behind here.

Thank you for allowing me the space to post this woefully inadequate tribute, and peace and blessings be with you all.

My deepest heart felt sympathy to Maude and the family. My heart is broken for Aunt Louise, Bryce, Jack and Brenda as well. Gary was a wonderful Christian man and served our Lord with grace. I have so many sweet memories of our time together at Grandma and Grandpa Anderson's house. Being with our extended family,Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. My first thought when I hear the news, went to Maude and Aunt Louise. The 2 most important women in his life. Gary loved his family and was a sweet man. His beautiful smile and his laughter are what I will remember. Gary has now joined so many of our family who have gone back to our God. Sadly the list continues to grow. I am looking forward to our wonderful, blessed family union in the presence of God. My love and my prayers for your peace of heart during this painful time. Much love and hugs, Debbie (cousin)

When he was an elder, I would call him Mr. Caudle. He quickly told me that his dad was Mr. Caudle. He said, "I am Gary." From then on, I would call him Mr. Caudle to pick on him and he would always say, "Gary". I enjoyed the little laugh and smile on his face. For the last several years I just called him Gary.

Gary called the church office recently when Maude went to the hospital by ambulance. He was standing in the parking lot near the ambulance. He called asking for prayers for the live of his life, his rock. Maude, he was worried about you. I could tell by the sound of his voice that he was scared for you. What a wonderful gift to have a husband that loved you so incredibly much.

Several weeks ago, he stopped by the office to drop something off that Maude had sent with him while he was out running errands. He told me that day that he missed his church family and looked forward to the day he could be back together with us all again. Gary, I look forward to that day too. Sir, you are one special man. Thanks for the legacy you left for your family and church family. I love you.

Like we had known each other forever. Marlee was toddling then. I can can still see him swoop her up out of the aisle. Gary visited my parents in the hospital early on when my Mom became sick. He was the first church member from NS ever to make a visit to my family and they were very glad for his visit. They too said Gary "just talked to them like old friends."
