I just received the notice of Doc Cannon passing away. I am terribly saddened. Doc was attached with my unit in Iraq in 2004. He was the corpsman that treated myself and 3 other Marines that were injured by a suicide bomber. Great man and it was a pleasure serving with and knowing him for that short time.

I was stationed at Pearl Harbor with Sydney and he was the first person to welcome me aboard with open arms. We became such good friends and he was always there when I needed him. Like so many others, we fell out of touch after leaving the Navy. He was always in my thoughts and I will always be grateful that I had the chance to know such a caring human being. My condolences to his family.

Sidney and I we’re attach the same Marine unit when we went to Iraq in 2004. I was permanent personal with the Marin unit and he had been chosen to come with us while serving a pearl harbor to help. I remember the first day that Sidney walked into our tent in Kuwait. I saw that he had a medical device on his collar and knew that he was gonna be my Corpsman, so I go to introduce myself and tell him what our mission is going to be and he says “well I guess we’re not gonna be doing a lot of sneaking around because you can see me coming from a mile away.”

I instantly liked him, And although I didn’t think it was possible over the next six months I go to like them even more. I’ve never known amore genuine, lead with your heart kind of guy. In the medical field he was knowledgeable and caring. As a warrior he was cautious and humane. I didn’t get a chance to speak to him after Iraq, but I always hoped that one day I turn a corner and Sydney Will be right in front of me can you give me one of those unforgettable bear hugs. I don’t know if any Marines have written anything on this but an outpouring has occurred on Facebook. He was loved and will be remembered by everybody that he came in contact with them I just want you know know that he touched a lot of lives. I know this comes almost half a year after but my condolences.

Kathy this is Jeremy Maxwell I went to school with your son Sidney. I don't know if you remember me. I have been trying to find him for the longest time. Ever since I moved back to Arizona and we lost touch I have wondered where he was and what he was doing and how he was. It was my best friend and I considered him a brother. One of them truly sorry for your loss.
For some reason today I searched his name in Google on my phone and his obituary came up I don't know why I searched him I was just curious as to where he was as I always have been. He was my very very best friend and he was a very very good friend to have, we had a lot of good times. The pain that I feel in my heart cannot pale in comparison to the sorrow that you must feel. I will truly never ever ever forget Sidney. Yours truly, Jeremy Maxwell.

Thank you for sharing your son and brother with the World, America, Arkansas, Independence County and WRMC. He was truly a HERO by serving his Country and community!!

Several months after I started to work at WRMC Sidney asked me a question that I will never forget and that inspired me. We were cleaning up a room after taking care of a really sick patient and he stopped and looked at me and asked, "Why do you do what you do" After that discussion and numerous times later he would share stories of serving our Country while in Iraq. Whenever we would see each other for the first time of a day we would usually greet each other with "Good Morning" and he would always respond with a grin and a twinkle in his eyes.

He is truly missed! I am so sorry that he was taken from you so prematurely. Prayers.
