I served in the Navy.

Doyle J. ScrogginsI am a Veteran.

of Scotland, AR

April 22, 1932 - September 22, 2020

Doyle J. Scroggins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was called home after a courageous battle with Covid-19. Doyle was a retired barber, cattleman, community organizer, a veteran of the United States Navy, and the patriarch of his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hayes Scroggins and Bertie Russell Scroggins, and siblings Euin Scroggins, Fern Hornbuckle, Mildred Mahan, and Weldon Scroggins.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Scroggins; his daughter, Sherry Tanner (Fred); his granddaughter, Jill Ward (Alan); his great-grandsons, Jones Ward and James Tiger Ward, all of Russellville; and a sister, Claudia Jean Crow of Morrilton.

After graduating from Scotland High School in 1950 he attended Arkansas State Teacher's College before enlisting in the United States Navy where he proudly served during the Korean War. He returned home and wed the love of his life, Mary, on June 17, 1952. He and Mary later settled in North Little Rock with newborn daughter Sherry. He opened The Amboy Barber Shop in 1958 which he operated with great success. Doyle also ran a thriving cattle operation, The Scroggins Ranch, breeding Polled Herefords. Doyle retired in 1999 to spend time traveling, riding his favorite horses, Rambler and Bojangles, serving as Head Trail Master in the Chuck Wagon Races, going dancing, spending time with his family, especially Mary, shooting pool, and being active at the Scotland Senior Center. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton and was a wonderful example of a godly man and a Christian. Our Papa will be greatly missed.

A visitation will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Foster Cemetery in Scotland, Arkansas, followed by a graveside service under the direction of Roller McNutt Funeral Home in Clinton.

Mary,
I just wanted to say how very sorry we all were to hear of Doyle's passing. He was such a good man and you two made a great couple. I remember him stopping by the Farm Bureau office when you worked for Dick to occasionally say Hi. Our prayers are with you at such a sad time and our love is with you always. May you find peace with all your memories and your family.

Doyle was truly one of the finest men I have ever known - He has been a friend to Butch for 60 years and to me for 56. He was a faithful and loving husband to Mary and excellent father and grandfather to Sherrie and her family. I never heard him raise his voice or repeat a falsehood. He represented the ideals and morals of his generation and the hopes of the generations that followed, that they could be respected the same as Doyle. May God Bless him and give him Rest.

Mary and Claudia, I am so very sore to hear of Doyle's death. I knew Doyle as long as I knew anyone other than my immediate family. Although Doyle was a few years older than me, he was an especially good friend. Even as a youngster, he was one of those people that I really looked up to. We had a lot of good times together. I will always have very fond memories of Doyle, and know how badly he will be missed.

So sorry for your loss. I had the privilege of being Doyle’s farrier for the past several years. Many of conversations were had during those times as well as covering a wide range of topics. One of his favorite stories was telling of how he and Mary went out west one year and got to tour a large Hereford operation. He love the western culture, he loved his horses, most of all he loved his family, and talked of how he was trying to raise a grandson that was going to make a Cowboy. I will miss those appointments
