She was born on May 5, 1930 in Searcy, Arkansas to the late Hociel and Lela Russel Chatman. She was proceeded in death by three sisters and survived by her sisters Linda Freeman and Martha Green and many nieces and nephews. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. A hard-working woman that spent more than 30 years in at ITT making parts.

She was a woman of wit and a sharp tongue. If she loved you, she had an opinion about what you were up to and she was going to make sure you heard it. If you were up to some foolishness, she would let it be told. She was a woman of discernment with a kind and loving heart for those she held dear.

She was preceded in death by her late husband Leon Smith, Sr. They married May 18, 1950. Both she and her husband were the oldest children from their respective families and after marriage they worked hard to build a life for themselves and help those in need when they could.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son Harold Smith. She is survived by his two daughters, Akasha Johnson and Marissa Smith and his grandchildren, Tyler and Akya.

She is survived by her son Leon Smith, Jr. and his children, Erica Parker and her husband Dromekko Parker and their two children, Anastazia and Alexia, Leon Smith, III and his wife Rachel Smith and his two children, Abbigail and Dominick, and William Smith, Sr and his wife Nikita Coleman-Smith and their two children William, Jr and Kaycee.

She was a woman with spirt that loved Al Green and with the birth of her first grandchild was willing to change how she lived her everyday life to be a steadfast presence in their lives. Spending time fussing with her husband about what the new babies in their lives needed and wanted in life.
From Her Grandchildren: As we sit around visiting with each other and sharing memories of you all the stories are remarkably similar. We will always smile thinking of the time we spent with you and grandpa and you two fussing over all of us spoiled grandchildren and who cooked to best scrambled eggs.

We want to thank you for being exactly who you are and making sure all of us had a strong mind and strong will. We will all continue to live with you in mind and live our lives without malice in our heart so that we can be well adjusted adults raise current and future descendants of your blood line. Granny we love you!
