George R., Payne, 85 of Searcy passed away on August 5, 2020. He was born March 22, 1935 in Smithville, Arkansas to Lenard Sam and Edia McAlister Payne.

George retired from Eaton Corp in Searcy with 40+ years and was very active in the Eaton Federal Credit Union. He served on the State Board of the Arkansas Credit Union League. He was a member of the Foothills Church of Christ.

Mr. Payne moved his family to Arizona for a period of time where he worked and enjoyed that part of the United States. He never lost his feelings for that area even after he moved back home to Arkansas and made many trips to visit his second home.

George was preceded in death by his parents, one son Gary L. Payne; three brothers, Harold, Truel and Bill Payne and one sister Juanita Hardin.

He is survived by his wife, Verna Cox Payne of Searcy, AR; one son, David L. (Kathy) Payne of Judsonia, AR; one daughter, Georgia Ann (John) Schwerdtfeger of Salem, OR; two grandchildren, Jason Payne and Tracey Gillham and two great-grandchildren, David W. Payne and Shelby Brook Payne all of Judsonia, AR along with his nieces and nephews and other extended family and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be held Saturday morning, August 8, 2020 at 10:00AM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Searcy. Services are under the direction of Roller-Daniel Funeral Home.

I am sorry for your families loss. I always looked forward to visiting with George when he would come into the bank. He was always calm and kind to deal with.
